I have bought some peel and stick double weight cardstock for 8x10s. works great. I can get it for 11x14 as well.

however, there are times I want something thicker or bigger - i have seen foamcore used as a backing - the print is glued to it.

I have a can of 3M photo mount, an aerosol contact cement. I am not happy with it - messy and not real permanent. I have used it and had the whole assembly warp - so I must be doing something wrong...

Help!

You have a lot of options... foamcore is one of them, but it won't stay flat with larger pieces on it.

Your local custom framing shop can dry mount for you (using foamcore or 3x board) and it shoudln't be too expensive... I would estimate about $20 or so to do a 16x24.

Ilford Smooth Pearl Boards ... you print right on them. Just have to make sure your printer has a manual feed slot and can take the 1.3mm thickness.
I've used this and really like it.

@Puggers - I don't print my own, i use a lab so I'm working with kodak or fuji papers.

@John - the local staples has big prints mounted to foamcore - i'll ask them on my next trip what they use. I'm a thrifty yankee (aka cheap bastard) and don't want to spend $20 per print for mounting. Heck, $10 for a spray can of 3M adhesive was a hard decision :P

I think the issue wth the foamcore is the glue - or deos foamcore have a 'grain' or something? In a frame i suppose it might stay flat.

I have some foamcore here at the framing shop that has a peel-off sticky side that would probably work nicely for what you want to do. I have no idea how much that costs though.

I take my larger prints to Aaron Bros. framing store and use on line coupons for dry mounting. You can pick the board and type of mount, one is removable, one not. They use a heat press and they come out nice. I had an 18X24 mounted on a 22X28 board for under $10.

Sturdyboard can be bought here.
and the self adhesive stuff here

25 sheets of 20x30 @ 3/16 is $115, $135 delivered. That'll last awhile! Works out w/ shipping to $6.75 a sheet, you can get 6 8x10s out of that with some leftover - actually a pretty good price.
