I am planning on buying a Canon 1d or 1ds but mainly for the auto focusing capabilities.
There is a certain amount of diminishing returns as you move up the camera cost ladder.
I will say that for the most part 99.99 percent of people (including myself) will never exceed the capabilities of a Canon G2. Except fo the rare moments I owuld like instant focusing I cannot come up with a satifactory reason to own more than a Canon G2 (or its equal from another manufacturer).
To get back to the point of the original poster though. Splitting the photographers by camera quality doesn't work on a site like this that is designed to be easy entry. And splitting the contributors by skill won't work in a site like this that is designed to be for the mid-level photographer anyway. (no insult intended or anything...just that experienced photographers probably spend more time being artists than getting graded on the internet and absolute beginners aren't interested in esoteric photography debates ;-D |

I have seen a home made camera, looked like a matchbox, do very well in photo contests. So, as others have stated, its not the camera, its the shooter and the source material. |

Shutter lag
Creative control over depth of field
Other than that, I'd pretty much agree. |

never forget the Pleasure of taking a picture with a SLR, digital or film. I think you're more 'in contact'. I take a lot of more pleasure taking te pics with the 10D compared to the s30 (which I still like though).
