i've inherited an older film camera, and i would like to get some idea of its value. does anyone know of a website or resource where i could get started researching this?

I typically start with ebay. Then seek out comparisons from the used departments at B&H and KEH. Then lastly go to Borders for a coffee and browse their bookshelves.

If it's a "collectable" camera, then its value could vary widely, depending on the rarity or other novelty value... in this case, it'd be worth tracking down a camera trading fair in your area.

If it's a reasonably normal camera 35mm SLR, then it's probably not worth very much, the market for film SLRs has pretty much crashed. When I tried to sell one of my Minolta Dynax 5 cameras (excellent condition) on eBay, I didn't get much interest - best offer I got was A$250 for it plus 28-200 lens, a small fraction of the approx. A$1200 combined purchase price of the two.

There is a book called "McKeown's Price Guide to Classic and Antique Cameras" that is supposed to be the "bible" for this sort of thing. But it's not a cheap book, the latest edition was recently advertised for A$240 here.
