Ok...so this guy called me today (got number off my website) and wanted info on booking a session...I live in GA, his cell phone has a Texas area code. He wants portraits for just himself (he is indian if that matters). Not sure how old he is, sounded 30's.
Anyway, I'm just kinda worried cause its not a family portrait it's just him by himself - he said they were for his private collection?
He booked the session for tomorrow because I said I could fit him in (he will be busy next weekend because he is moving into a house (he is currently in an apt). He made the comment that the following weekend would be too late for him?
Does this sound weird to anyone else or am I just being paranoid?
help! |

It does sound "different" but not overly dangerous. However, judging by your feelings...I wouldn't bring him in my home or studio if my children were there!
In the end...I would trust your feelings and err on the side of safety.

Do you have anyone you can have with you to act as an 'assistant'? That might help alleviate any misgivings you may have about taking pictures of a single guy - you'd have someone else there to help you out and 'keep an eye' on everything (and they may just turn out to be a good assistant, too!).

Definitely weird. I would be freaking out as well...LOL For sure bring someone (preferably a BIG guy) to be your assistant, as someone mentioned!

I don't find this strange at all. I shoot individual images for portraits or for portfolio or whatever.
If you leave your number on your site, expect to get called for work. Thats what happens most the time.
As for the Area code... well, I have a colorado area code and I live in California. It was better to just keep the same number than the hassle of getting a new one. Plus free long distance is becomeing more common place so there normaly are not extra charges for differnt area code calls.
Finaly, did he say only Portraits? or was he fishing sounding like maybe something more?
I have shot male and female nudes, if the client pays, the cameras eye is unbais.
Yet, if you have a funny feeling, than make sure others are around, and others know where you are and when you are to be finished. or just cancel it all together.
But, don't error on the only thought of it being an indiviual portrait than a group portrait. Leave your comfort zone, shoot something else...

The guy is probably interested in doing online dating or something and is a embarrassed. I could see if you were a woman, being nervous...just go take his pictures.

Uhm, maybe the guy needed some shots because he had a deadline? Maybe someone wanted stuff for a brochure by Wed, and they told him he has to provide it.
Maybe he's an actor starting out and got an audition and needs some shots.
Maybe a casting agent picked him off the street and said, hey, I'd like you to try out for something, can you send me some pictures?
I can think of many other reasons off the top of my head that someone would need an individual portrait by a certain date. |

You said he is a Indian as in from India. My guess is that he needs Photograph for his matrimonial AD . You know it is fairly common for Indians to have arranged marriage, they normally send a photograph .
Now days they even have matrimonial web sites.
Check out www.shaadi.com
Portrait for Matrimornial AD . I did this for a friend of mine.
It is just my guess.

So, is it like match.com for Indians? |

Yes, Its very much similar to match.com or e-harmony and other such websites...I believe its open for anyone and not just Indians though, but considering they have the name 'shaadi.com' (means marriage) its predominantly Indians on the website!

I asked him what they were for and he skated around the subject saying they were just for his personal portfolio, not to give out to anyone...
I know pidge, there are many reasons for getting portraits done...I wasn't questioning that, I was questioning his secrecy. |

Well typically some India guys are too shy to admit they are thinking of placing AD.
My friend was shy. |

I think he has all the right not to tell you why he needed the photos. Just my thoughts :)

^^Your point?
I guess that means I have all the right to question his motives? |

I understand you were worried, in fact, I would be worried too if I came in the same situation.
I just think he doesn't need to give you the reason why he needs the photos. That's all.
