I have an older gateway computer and when I process a picture for a challenge, on my screen it looks real clear, but I have looked at the same picture on a plasma screen it looks grainy. I wondered why people left comments that it was to grainy. How can I fix this? Thanks |

Older crt monitors will not show fine detail the way lcd or HD monitors show them. There's some noise in some of the darker areas of shots which happens with a lot of point and shoot cameras due to the smaller sensor size, especially at higher iso's. Just looking through a few of your shots, ISO 200 seems to be where noise becomes noticeable. Your daylight shots of the skater look fine, they're probably at ISO 100 and it's much brighter out there. If there's a way on your camera to keep the ISO at 100 try that, but that would mean longer exposure which could lead to noise as well. Neat Image could take care of some of the noise, but with your monitor it would be hard to detirmine exactly how much "noise" your cancelling out if you can't see it to begin with. |

most LCD (and plasma) monitors are brighter and tend to show more. You will have to calibrate your monitor to closly match what the LCD shows...if possible. Some would also suggest printing an image at a trusted printing company and comparing it to both monitors and maybe calibrate off of that.
I finally traded my daughter for her CRT monitor (she was more than happy to get a flat LCD monitor) because I just couldn't get my post processing correct and was always screwing up my images.
Good luck
p.s. there are a TON of items in the forums about calibration that may contain links to site that help with this.

Who did you trade your daughter to? Seems like a steep price to pay for a monitor.

If it's one of those 10' hang-on-your-wall HD plasma deals that can make your morning coffee, then it was totally worth it. I just want to meet this Rumpelstiltskin fellow you dealt with; I could learn a lot from him. |
