After reading some of my photography book and playing around I think I'm starting to be able to roughly get the DOF I want on shots instead of it being this big cosmic mystery.

I know it's not that hard, but I was frustrated not being able to control my DOF very well (or at all), but finally it's making sense.

One of several problems was I really didn't understand how my distance to the subject(s) effected the DOF. But now I'm getting reasonably consistent results.

I've got a lot (a LOT) of fine tuning to do but the bulb turned on. It's a small thing, but it feels good. :)

Oh and figuring out that everything on the plane of the focal point parallel to the lens would be in focus was another "aha" moment. That opens up more creative doors...

I felt the same way when I figured out how to control my DOF! :)
