Not to hijack this thread.....

But those with ipods.......have you found them ok while running? I opted for an iriver flash mp3 player when I purchased mine. All these podcasts interest me. I'd love to have something to watch while working out ;)

2 out of 31 Canon lenses in stock and no Nikon yet. :(

Not to mention having to prove damage done by shipping to prevent having to pay for the lens. :(

Good concept, but it needs to mature a bit before it becomes viable.

I run with an I pod shuffle. It is the size of a stick of gum. Weights about as much and my 1 g holds 250 songs.

there weren't a lot of responses to this thread. let me ask you this folks... This particular company seems to be horrible at customer service. I find it ironic that the FAQ in the website clearly points out all the flaws of the service. So my question is: If this service were done correcly, I.E. took reservations, had many lenses on hand and other such bugs were worked out would you be interested in such a service?

I know I would be. I can't afford to buy a long "l" lens especially since I mostly shoot wide, but if I went to NY or something I would love to rent one. or I suppose it would be nice to try the lens before you bought it.

what do you guys think?

I run with an ipod and find it just fine for listening to stuff, although not sure how well running and watching stuff on a video pod would be, unless it was a treadmill.

I would be interested, as long as the availability and accountability was worked out differently.

The lens has be be available for it to be of any use for special events. As it stands now, with notification when the lens becomes avalable, and no guarantee that you will get it before someone else does, it is just too unrealiable to be considered seriously. As a one-time tryout of a lens before making a purchase -- maybe, but that's about all.

On the accountability side of things, it shouldn't be too hard for them to insure all of their equipment under one package and pass the insurance charges on to their customers in the rental price. As it stands now, the renter is responsible for all damages unless they can prove it was damaged in transit. Even if the transit damage can be proven, if the damage was done on the return trip the renter is likely still liable until they recover damages from the shipper. Getting a shipper to admit responsibility and honor a claim can take a long time. This is quite a bit different than renting from a local shop where I could inspect the lens before leaving the store and demonstrate it in good condition upon bringing it back.

Like I said earlier, it is a good concept, but will need a lot of time, effort and money on their part to mature it into a viable business model that photographers will want to depend on for 'specialty' lenses.
