Doc, pretty sure the 1's were the Nikon guys having a bit of fun in a fun challenge. Or perhaps they were from the "why don't you just iron the darn backdrop!" crowd. Or maybe, just maybe, they were non-Canon owners somewhat insecure about the size of their lenses and therefore jealous of your generously-sized lens cap.
I gave you a 6. 5 for meeting the challenge with a technically acceptable, properly sized photo; +1 for a creative idea, +1 for humor, +1 because you're kinda cute, and -3 for NOT IRONING THE DARN BACKDROP! Oh, and +1 cuz I like the shorts.

The trouble with jokes is, if they don't make you laugh, then . . .
So why saddle your picture with the responsibility of making people laugh.
Because it's fun.
But if they don't laugh then you might get lower scores.
That doesn't matter.
That's all right then. |

I was surprised I didn't get more ones and not one negative comment on mine. I did this for a laugh too.

Offend a group of camera owners and you are asking for low votes. It is like a PC owner telling a Mac owner thier computer is better.
Personally, I think the model, the way he is dressed and his pose is very clever.
It is the bad lighting and wrinkled background that "sux"!
Looks like Achoo's warped humor implying that it was a Nikon owner that setup the picture went over people's head. It is always chancy to use bad photography to make a point when entering a photo contest. LOL!

This is a great photographic metaphor expressing frustration and is technically very well done. Unfortunately, it is better suited for a gallery print than a DPC challenge.
As a generalized group DPCers have... welll... shall we say "black and white" values when it comes to photography.

You know, I am really happy with the ones and twos! Humour creates the spread and this time the peak of the curve was to the right (high end) - and I can live with that.

I don't necessarily agree. If it is funny I think it can be well received but in the case of this photo it just really isn't funny. Felt more pandering than anything. Pandering and funny works, just pandering doesn't. |
My daughter and I both cracked up at this one. Guess I don't know funny, sorry. Can I drop my score on this now? I voted it too high, apparently. |

Surprisingly, based on the vote distribution curve it appears this image did not suffer because of a "poor taste" humor backlash.
