Gore actually said he "took the initiative in creating the Internet" in an interview with Wolf Blitzer during CNN's "Late Edition" on March 9, 1999.

According to Vint Cerf, considered one of the "founding fathers" of the internet, Gore did take initiative in creating what we now know as the internet by holding hearings about it as early as the mid-1980s while a Senator. As one commentator paraphrased Vint Cerf comments (which I was unable to find), "Gore built the Internet in the same way as a mayor builds a bridge: neither by drawing up blueprints nor by welding steel, but rather by facilitating its construction."

But let's not let the truth get in the way of good political spin? Correct?

Maybe so,but what about these lies (or miss interpretations from his own words).

more Gore lies

Van-You could pick almost ANY politician and list their respective lines of bullshit....that would make a trail to the moon and back ten times.

I heard Dick Cheney being interviewed by Charlie Rose a few years back and saw the most stunning display of bullshit I'd ever witnessed in my entire life...no exagerration. One lie, mistruth...twisted fact after the next...I was so impressed. I've never seen a stronger, more confident presentation based purely on garbage ever before. It was so cool and Charlie Rose just sat there and got play like the punk that he is. Poetry in motion.

Dick Cheney? I am in complete awe of the man...nobody does it better.

Not "maybe so". Did or did not Al Gore claim to have "invented the internet" as you so claim?

The rest of your post is diversion from your original statement, regarding which I have not made any claims, and am, therefore, under no obligation to address.

I was giving an example of his character of not telling the full-truth or exagerating the facts so many times in his political history. Just one of many. I could have brought up another instead of the internet creation shot. Also, was just a funny jab, that I guess hit a sore.

I believe Al Gore's history of half-truths/lies make his global warning scare something we need to think about. Is it really happening or are we in a cycle? Do we have enough scientific information on climate?, since we have only been keeping detailed weather records for slightly more than 100 years. And climate changes probably alot less. Many scientist are not on board with global warming at this time.

I live in a town that had at one time the largest steel mills west of the Mississippi. The green/brown cloud over Pueblo was really ugly most of my life. PU-Towm! They went to electrical arc-furnaces, now we have some of the cleanest air in Colorado. The U.S.A. has lead the world in environmental clean-up. Do you think countries like China, India, and many others are doing their part of the worlds clean-up.

As a total optomist, I think if there is global warming, it maybe be a great thing. Do we really know? Life is to short to be depressed over a theory. Just some more thoughts I've been wondering. Van

Thanks for the reply. I agree. Politicians (along with a majority of the world) tend to put forth the “best” parts of the truth and ignore the inconvenient ones.

The “invented the internet” remark is just one that’s particularly irritating, because it’s a cheap and easy shot that’s based on a false premise.

Global warming is an area I honestly don’t believe I have enough knowledge about in order to mount a cogent argument in support of either position. I will probably be seeing the film and that may lead me to pursue other avenues of information – both pro and con.

My own personal beef with Gore goes several years (like 20) back when he was gov of TN. He spearheaded a campaign against the papermill in our town because it polluted a river that ran into TN.

The good thing is that the papermill is a lot cleaner now, air, water, everything.

The thing that irked me, and still does, is that he didn't require any such stuff from the mills in his own state.

hmmmm?

So, if you want to find someone to bash Bush's environmental policies, please do so with someone other than Al Gore. I'm sure there are several you could use.

Its a few yrs old, but just a quick google gives this:

CO2 emissions per head for selected countries, 2002 (//www.dti.gov.uk/files/file20356.pdf)

Country...CO2 emissions per capita/tonnes
UK........8.9
France....6.2
Germany...10.2
Japan.....9.5
Russia....10.4
Indonesia.1.4
USA.......19.7
India.....1.0
China.....2.6
EU-15.....8.4
World.....3.9

added bold for emphasis

Just food for thought

Im not saying i like bush, but i am getting sick if hearing about him...you see i think he is using the attention methode (something i learning in HS) no matter if the attention is positive or negative all attention is good. if everyone is talking about him no-1 will forget...right now we rag on him and in 2 years we might say he wasnt so bad...i doubt it,but ya never know. anyway my point being if we dont pay attention to him maybe he will disappear.

Please show me the quote where he said that.

Because he NEVER did.

What he DID say was the truth - that he was instrumental in its development.

The right-wing press repeated this lie all through the election.

Looks like you bought it, hook, line, and sinker.

Ummm, right. A piece in the Wall Street Journal, written by a member of the DuPont family, no less, and which takes as its scientific reference a front group of Exxon Mobil.

Guess what - the piece says CO2 is not a pollutant, that "Science says" global warming is a myth, and that every thing is actually looking just great! :)

What a crock of garbage. By the leading purveyor of crocks of garbage - the WSJ opinion page!

I don't know. According to RonB, George W Bush has NEVER told a lie, because he did not know it was untrue at the time he said it, or it was not a deliberate untruth, etc.

So you see, here at dpchallenge, there is a VERY high bar set for allegations of political lying.

At least when Al Gore says something wrong, 100,000 Iraqi's don't wind up blown to smithereens.

Sorry - got off track there. My bad.

Hey gingerbaker, why are you here? All of your posts are just about one thing and one thing only, which isn't about photography. Might I suggest posting at a politics web site? If you are so adamant about your views might I suggest doing something more constructive than trying to convert minds over the internet.
