Oh yeah... I need one of those :-)

Might break your neck trying to shoot at the beach though :-)

Yeah, nothin says "Photo Dork" quite the same way.

Talk about being creative. Nice way to free up a hand and still have the nice bounce/fill to take with.

Yeah, sore neck from hell if it's windy.

Wow, I can see where this would do a wonderful job. But, I'm not sure I want to be seen wearing one (I am more of a follower than a leader). Sort of reminds me of a battery operated beanie with a propeller thingy on top that I had as a kid.

PS. Leroy, I can see you in one. Probably wearing just that, maybe spiked heels too and nothing else. LOL!

If I get to take a photo of that, I'll wear one, too!!

LOL! Maybe we need a Mobile, AL GTG so that everyone can use him as the model. We're all going to have to be drinking or something though.

I was about to type "Poor Leroy", but then changed my mind.
I bet he'd love all the attention, right? :-)

Oh whatever!!! Like you're shy or something? You'd probably be the first DPCer to wear one!

HEY! I resemble that remark.

/me pictures Leroy using the device to create a Mapplethorpe tribute (bullwhip) and then pours drano in my ear to try and clear the image out of my head

IMHO, I think he should get one of those and somehow do a spiked-heel, nude, cheesy self-portrait for one of two current challenges, ie. "heat" - something like "Hot LeRoy" or for "success" like "If You Never Try It, You'll Never Know if You Might be Successful," I guarantee I'll vote a 10 on either one of those if he has the guts to do it!!!

PS. - Just don't get too perverted Leroy!!!!

*chuckling at this thread*

How'd I get the position of posterboy for oddness here?
05/20/2006 04:37:08 PM · #16
LMAO! You can't be serious! You probably have more nerve than anyone!

You're right, I can't :-)

Well, thank you. I'm actually kinda shy in person at first.

Oh man, that's hilarious -- she certainly got some funny expressions from people with that get-up!

I just spent most of the afternoon doing shots of Ben Roethlisberger (Steelers QB) with groups of teens for the organizers of an anti-drug event, and I got *plenty* of weird looks with just the regular Lightsphere!

I already have a hat like that for my rainy day spelunking. Never even thought of using it with my camera flash.
05/20/2006 08:26:40 PM · #20
They probably got this idea from Al Franken when he was on SNL. :P
05/20/2006 08:29:26 PM · #21
If I saw someone walking around with something like that on their head I think I would either die laughing, or have them commited. Sorry - but that just looks to weird.
And forget about getting true candisds wearing that thing! Everyone would be frozen and staring straight at the photog!
05/20/2006 09:17:31 PM · #22
That would be rather odd walking around in the park.

But, I could see where it could be very useful.
05/20/2006 09:42:12 PM · #23
This also seems to be helpful in getting good expressions from your subjects -- notice that most of the photo subjects seem to be laughing, or tryong to hold back a laugh. Wonder why...

Yes, it could be quite useful for some subjects. Makes the photographer appear amusing and non-threatening for people who might usually react to the "threat" of a photographer with an SLR in unpleasant ways.

Of course, if you DO have to run away, the umbrella would increase your wind resistance. :o
