I didn't use this one because I felt voters wouldn't think it was dark enough. It was taken an hour after sunset. Thoughts?
Thanks! |

Ken ... left you a comment. Mine:
: my entry
and : from the same location. All would have much better shots if the lights on Table Mountain had been switched on. Instead you can see it in the background as a cloud (as one one commentor put it).
: an alternative location
: what I should have entered, except that I cloned out the roof of a building.

biteme - In my opinion you made the right decision. Your night shot is creepy, in a good sort of way.
sysop - Again the correct decision in my opinion. The color is much nicer in the one you submitted. |

->original idea
->final entry
I thought that the color version was too busy and did't lead the eye to the person as in the monochrome version. :) |

I was going to enter a shot that would look a lot like this one, but couldn't get a chance to go take it due to school work:
Thoughts, comments?

I spent about an hour on this one before I realised it was a Basic Editing challenge.
Although my actual entry did not do well in the challenge (and I believe this one wouldn't either), I would like to thank DPC for again making me do stuff I would not otherwise have done.
I went out and spent 3 hours walking the streets, trying different shots and stretching the limitations of my flash and remote release.

Both are exellent shots, but I have to say I like the colour version better. The figure remains a little hidden, but the wonderful colours and textures on the walls make me look at the pic in more detail - and then you notice the figure.

Maryba,
I like the first one a bit more than the second. I don't know how it would have scored, but I like how the lights are dispersed all around. |

I experimented with some film noir night photography ideas, but ultimately went with Holy Places instead. Comments welcome.

I have now learned that you can swithc submissions without unsubmitting the one you have submittied. You'd think I know that by now.
Anyways, here are the two I was waffling with, and ended up submitting neither

I went for Holy Places. Bad move I guess, as the weather was terrible the day I made the shot for Holy Places - the sky was grey, full of diffused light. My skills are quite limited. I don't think I would've been able to do anything better that day. But the next day the weather was wonderful - just no time to reshoot.

Here are three of my outtakes, but I used advanced editing on them. I used contrast masking and High Pass Filter set to 10 pixels and hardlight opacity. |
