Lowest score I gave was a 4.
Very few bad in this challenge but very few outstanding one's as well.

I'll take a 10, please. In fact, you can even get all your friends to sign up and give me 10's! lol

my score is bad but someone just said my photo isnt a poster because its not rectangle? I thought we were shooting an image FOR a movie poster not an actual poster...some people :/

While thats probably true I gave the majority of my higher votes to submissions in portrait crop. Had it been a billboards challenge I would've favoured landscape crops.
Publishers generally expect portrait crops for posters and magazine covers and landscape crops for billboards so framing or orientation played a part in my voting this week.
cheers,
bazz.

It really amazes me that some are voting down based on landscape verses portrait. They are also voting down based on a photo being two demensional? LOL....They are also voting down if it doesn't look like a poster. They are voting down if it looks TOO much like a poster. They are voting down if titles aren't chosen well on the poster, which looks too much like a poster and not a photo, and that is landscape verses portrait, which may be two dementional, which is against the "spirit of photography AND the site!?" LMAO.....NOT to mention they are voting down based on their own interpretation of legalities - and most likely because they didn't think of the same procedure when processing their own entries, which amazes me most of all! I can't wait to post comment on my entry when this challenge is over!! :)
I don't feel too bad about my score now knowing how it isn't my submission that has problems, but the voters. It's quite evident in reading this thread and most of the scores that it is the voters who have more problems then the submissions for this challenge.
Rae-Ann go play those numbers today!

I finally made it to 4! I think I knew I shouldn't have submitted this, but I thought it was kind of cute. |

I can't wait for you to comment on your photo either. I love to laugh at those. Sources of amusement every time. Your stunning displays of blind ranting are truly, truly hilarious.

That's a very flawed premise being how this is NOT a poster challenge. The description clearly states "shoot the photograph for your movie's debut poster". Not enter a photo that IS your movie poster. Landscape photos are used ALL THE TIME in movie posters, resized to fit portrait style posters. Almost every movie that deals with the "country" in some way uses sweeping landscape shot in their posters. I can post about 5,000 examples of this, if you like. The two most popular types of photos used in posters are headshots of the actors and sweeping landscapes. As a graphic designer myself who has designed many posters (not for movies), I use both landscape and portrait style photos almost equally.
ETA: However with that said, I entered mine as a portrait because I knew some would confuse this as a poster challenge when it's not.

and having said all that, it is up to the voter to determine how they interpret the challenge and to vote accordingly.
Neither of the voting methods is wrong. I applaud Bazz for being honest and open about how he's voting, and I've had enough of putting people down for doing so, especially if it goes against what your interpretation is. Jaysus WEPT people.

Man I think we're going to have to get lawyers to review the wording of challenges from now on. Now I admit that years of abuse have left me a little numb and I don't read or write so good. But when I see a challenge that say make a f****** poster about a movie. I make a poster about a movie. Not a graphic designer so I can only go by experience here. So I go into a movie theatre, which I've done once or twice and I stand back and say to myself... wow look at that poster in landscape format... isn't that interesting. And look... one with a square crop. COOOOEEEEL. I really like this out of the box movie theatre. In fact, last theatre I went to the whole movie was displayed on a triangular screen... :) |

I didn't vote submissions down for being in landscape. I just gave the "majority" of my higher votes to shots in portrait orientation. ;)

All in all there are some extremely creative works of art in this challenge. I gave many high scores. It is nice to see some challenges that are really inspiring some folks. My shot was very literal to this theme and isn't doing well, but there are some shots that WHEW! are just fantastic! |

I did as promised - voted nothing less than a 5 this time. You could have entered a shot of your shoe and if the letters D, P and C appeared anywhere, in any order, in your title - I'd have given you a 5. Well, OK, in the fictitious case just mentioned, maybe a 4. I've yet to go back and bump - but that's coming. Lots of bumps. So watch for those scores to go up! :-) Just doin' my part... |
