This little thing ... this tiny little gif image that makes people go nuts around here and causes so many arguments?
Someone explain it to me?

well, i suppose you're not looking for a real answer, but here is a simplified version anyway.... it's human nature to be competitive, winning something makes people feel good. don't you want one? |

validation. makes people feel talented and like they are one of the best.
on the flip side without one it can make people feel insecure and question their talent.
really I think it all boils down to self confidence either way and there ends up being a clash of feelings amongs people.
Then there are those that truely don't care and just like to stir the pot. |

Don't forget the rest of the rat pack. Of course all of these colors are just names we associated with their placements ;)
Green - 4th Place
Purple - 5th Place
Brown - Last Place

Sorta looking for a real answer, sorta just stirring the pot a little.
To answer your question, not really. I won't complain if I get one, but not my ultimate goal.

Well, I also think it's human nature to be competitive, although some people are more competitive than others of course. I'm not very competitive although I would love to win a ribbon someday. Just for the recognition. Who doesn't? I feel the same as fotomann though, it's not my ultimate goal too. I don't need a ribbon to be satisfied about my photos or feel good about myself.

We want to feel loved by people who annoy us. It reminds us of our own family.

Oddly enough, while a ribbon would be, well, awesome, it's not my reason for being here. I've had way more fun and have learned a lot more in the head-to-heads that have popped up. Met some really nice people that way, too. |

A little bit for me, winning a ribbon would mean "I've arrived." It would mean (to a certain extent) that I would have to right to claim to be pretty dang good at photography. Whether professional or not, it would be a validation of some talent.....
And maybe that's it for some other people. Doesn't everyone want to be talented? |

But alot of it is luck to. Right place, right time. Right contest, right concept. Right day right weather...and so on.
I have never seen a contest winner that did not deserve it, but there is a certain degeree of luck. You just have to hit it out of the ball park, and you never know when that my be.

There is no point in entering a competition if you aren't trying to win! The blue ribbon is the symbol of victory around these parts.

I was thinking about this yesterday: why blue, red and yellow??
red, green and blue would be more obvious... why these colors? |

Now that I finally have one.. I think.. ok.. now what?
heh.
Seriously, my quest to have the hat-trick (one blue, one red, one yellow), has finally been completed, and I honestly don't know if the site has much more for me.
I'm still shocked I won the blue over CalliopeKel though, she has way more favorites than I do. |
