I recently got into grad school in NY for social work, and im trying to find infor on scholarships and grants, but im finding it to be very limited on what is offered to graduate students. If anyone has any ideas on where to look that would be much appreciated (i have one of those huge books from thompson peterson) and i cant seem to find a good list on line.

I think scholarships for grad students are pretty non-existent. You can probably find some, but for the most part grad students are normally assumed to work as TA's or RA's at a lot of schools and so don't usually require much more support. But, I think that there are more student loans/grants available through the government. Thats just what I've seen around.

Have you looked at federal Pell Grants? I have no idea if they are available for grad or undergrad only. Also check local and state level education policies to see if there is any information. Also check with your school financial aid office. They should have huge catalogs of scholarships you may be elegible for

From what I've seen, most "scholarships" are for undergraduate studies. Most merit based graduate financial aid is in the form of work study (T.A. or R.A.). There are some employers that will pay for grad degrees, but my guess is that you are not in that category. I've also found some graduate level internships with the federal government, but those seem to vary with the specific agency. When I was looking into it, I was mostly focused on engineering.

The easiest thing to do is call the financial aid office at the school you've been accepted to....they have every interest in helping you find funding for your education.

While you're talking to the school, see if the school has its own awards...for example, for excellence. There may also be pay for service/work available.

As a masters student you may qualify for state or federal financial aid as well...so be sure to fill out the FAFSA.

Here's a sample of what one NY school puts on its website for grants/scholarships: //www.nyu.edu/socialwork/ps-msw-pd-aid-aid.html

And here's a PDF from an Arizona school of social work with a ton of resources, web and otherwise: //ssw.asu.edu/admissions/FABrochure.pdf
