I can't believe this thread has gone this hostile and this far afield without being reigned in... I had to double check that it wasn't a 'rant'

Easy solution for those that don't want to see embedded photos when reading forums... Configure your browser not to see them...

This is done through IE by...

1 ~ Select Tools / Internet Options from the menu bar.

2 ~ Click on the Advanced tab

3 ~ Scroll down to Multimedia and un-check the box that says "Show pictures"

4 ~ Click Apply / OK

5 ~ Enjoy the freedom from embedded photos

Problem solved

Edit : This post spellchecked for your protection :)

Snip...

I will use this method before voting, it should make the process so much simpler.

Mike thanks for the tip.

So I'm guessing no borders for this contest?

Resize only the way I read it.

Not including portait shots is beyond a farce, it ludicrous..... this cannot be for real surely..... I turn my camera sideways and take a picture..... and that is not legal for this challenge..... c'mon..... get real..... that is taking literal to new heights!

You are allowed to resize, and that's final. I can't sharpen my shot after resizing it, even though that would just be returning it to the sharpness level it had when I originally took the shot. That's a little rediculous, too. However, the rules are simple here. Resize, and that's final. There should be no questions here. No questions about colors, borders, sharpening, contrast, brightness, nothing. Once it comes out of your camera, resize it, submit it, you're done. Nothing else. Is that so hard? Nothing else, at all, no matter what it is.

That said, this thread has informed me that some cameras can rotate the picture in-camera. Armed with this knowledge, I will not be voting down for any portrait-oriented shots.

mine's rotated. i'm not reshooting. if i get dq'd, then so be it. putting a portrait photo in sideways would result in a shitty score anyway.

i have a landscape shot that i could submit instead, but i like this one better so i'm sticking with it.

if i can do it without even opening photoshop or any other type of imaging software, i say it's not 'post-processed.'

maybe my photo can be rotated in the camera... i'll have to go check the manual. still, dq'ing (or requesting dq's) of every portrait shot is a bit harsh. *shrug*

I agree. How did you do it without opening any type of imaging software? That's an interesting point...

If it's any reassurance Rob, I will not be checking all the camera specs, researching the typical image quality and output from each one, cataloguing them, constructing a database of all the collective features and then - finally - cross referencing each typical image against the most probable host camera of each image in the challenge!! I have a life, so go rotate it! ;)

like i said before, you can rotate the files in Windows XP Explorer.

look, guys... my whole point is this: if everyone is trolling through this challenge just looking for images that have been processed, they're going to miss looking at the IMAGES themselves, which defeats the whole purpose of the challenge in the first place.

if people are just going to be petty about stuff, then I'm just gonna unsubmit and sit this one out. as has been stated in this thread long before, it's ONE challenge and it's not worth it.

i've requested one DQ in my 14 months and 3000+ votes, and that was in the unlimited editing challenge regarding the whole scanned-in artwork thing. for the most part, i feel that people here are good at working within our limitations.

i just don't see why so many feel that they have to poo-poo on other people's parades.

I took my past photo this morning not thinking about whether it should be portrait or landscape until i went to resize it:(

To me it looks like everyone is playing by different rules depending which camera they have.

I'm going to come down hard on any image that looks like it's been taken in the future.
08/19/2003 06:09:03 PM · #91
I'm going to open up a case of whoop ass on any pictures that looks good.

Kidding. 24 hours to go and I have no idea what to do.

Many two-year-olds will do less whining then some of the members here... no offence to anyone. I get such a kick out of reading some of the rant forum threads. This is better than comedy on TV :-))

my pic is in portrait and was rotated in the camera BEFORE I copied it over to the PC. I do not have the ability to do in camera B&W shots or sepia shots like other cameras.

so I hope before the voting begins that the voters understand that just because they see a portrait shot (or a B&W) does not mean it was post-processed that way once the image got on to the photographers PC.
