Ha!!! I told the news guy when he said, "I think you won your challenge," that they'd find fault with the picture. But, two of my pictures, with my name under them are on the front page of paper today, so I don't care.

I've turned my scores off and decided that I'm not going to turn them on until I've voted on every image in the challenge.
It's killing me though!!!!

OK... finished voting... Of 183 images I voted all but 39 with higher scores than MY current average of 5.3.
Let's see... I drove 50 miles to take pictures for a couple hours at a newsworthy event covered by every conceivable type of news media. I spent about 3.5 hours post processing a selected image from the shoot to insure good technical quality. It has no serious technical flaws (you can later be the judge of that), has good sharpening, reasonable colors and contrast, follows the rule of thirds and captures an interesting moment.
Given that "1" is "bad" and 10 is "good" then my average rates around a semi-decent snapshot basically unworthy of submission. The good part, however, is I really enjoyed taking the pictures. That part was a lot of fun. Just wished I hadn't wasted so much time post processing. I probably could have did autolevels, cropped, resized, sharpened and saved for the web and it would have done about as well. :)

Mine is just doing average...5.3
But...I've been trying for a while to get a decent shot of this. I'm not sure how many people are appreciating how difficult this particular setting is to get decent lighting, focus, and clarity. I actually got several shots that I like, but I think this one is the best overall.
I was going to enter it into the free study, but decided it fit in photojournalism too. I'm happy with it and I hope the score goes up some. I doubt I'll get too many comments, so I might post it again after the challenge is over in order to get some feedback. |
