Is it just me, or do any of you go out and actually reshoot a picture so you can enter it in a challenge? I have a shot from last week I rather like. If I want to enter it in the free study, though, I gotta go reshoot it. Am I the only insane sicko who does this?

actually, that's how you get ahead. if you notice most of the people here who are multiple-ribboners, you'll see they have found a favorite spot/model/style/subject that works for them. find yours and make it work for you.

also, if you have a shot that you like that didn't do that well, revisit it AFTER the challenge to see if you can improve on it.

I haven't found a true "style" that I can see. But I do see the value in reshooting something to see if it can be done better, especially if it was something for a challenge and someone made a suggestion as to how to improve it. In this particular instance, I'll probably reshoot exactly as I shot it the first time, then try a few more things to play with, too.

My Free Study entry is a reshoot :)

I tried a reshoot for the free study, it sucked as much as the first shoot though :(

I need a month-long free study so I can get the light I want, the rain and clouds didn't help at *all*!

Just back from my reshoot. Now to see what I've got and if I still like it. I think I'd better like it - don't have much else to choose from! :-)

Wow. Very cool! I'll take it. SC? Can you just jot that down for me now? We can dispense with that whole voting process.

I still like it. So far. Problem is, I think it's one of those I like but not very many other people do. I'm hopelessly clueless as to what folks here "like" on any given day, so I just try to do a good job with what I like. Works better some times than others. :-)

Up until recently, my highest scoring image - now my 2nd highest scoring image (7th place - Nature's Melting Pot from the Long Exposure Challenge) is the same location where I won my BROWN Ribbon in the Dreams Challenge. LOL

I was so disappointed at my dismal failure and determined that it was a beautiful spot, that I went back to reshoot (and have several times since for additional shots). I must say it was VERY satisfying when it did as well as it did the second time around. :-) It's a great spot and when you find those types of places, people, or things, you gotta make them work for you.

You gotta be kidding, dahlin'? I am the master of reshoots. And re-reshoots. And re-re-reshoots. Can anyone spell M-A-R-S-H and S-K-I-F-F?

Too funny! I guess I don't think of those as specific reshoots - just repeat locations for new shoots.

And Jimmy - very encouraging story behind your near-highest and lowest ranking pictures!

In all seriousness I agree 20000% with jimmy. I'll say that the reshoot is probably the best thing you can do to learn.

Look at the painting masters (I'm thinking of monet at the moment) who painted the same scene time after time after time after time after ... to get it right or to get it different, to really study the subject and the light.

Yes, that's exactly right. And Ansel returned to the same locations over and over again for decades. For some, "art" means "always new"; for others it means "deeper and deeper".

Well if that makes you an insane sicko then it makes me one too! I've done that.

I'll take one, please! I neeeeeeeeed a good score, just once!

edited to keep on-topic :)
My best-scoring, in macro, was a reshoot of one of my daughter's faves, at her suggestion. Nuffin' wrong with shooting something more than once. If we all did that, we might run out of subjects pretty fast.
