I'm new to this sight, and frankly new to the land of photography as well. In a few of my feedbacks It's been suggested that I make my images bigger. When attempting to send them via internet the file's usually to big and I have to shrink them for them in order to upload. This is the only thing I know how to do. If anyone can explain a more effective process to me that would be helpful.

Thanks,

Try this tutorial. Note that there's a summary of the steps at the end for easy reference.

What photo editing program are you using? If you don't have photoshop the tutorial may be a little confusing to you.

This website accepts JPEG.
So first of all, you got to understand that, for the same image size of 640x640 pixels, JPEG compression could make that same image either 50kb or 150kb.
This is called JPEG compression, or in general terms, JPEG quality.
Of course, it is common sense that a 50kb 640x640 pixel image will be of poorer quality compared to a 150kb 640x640 pixel image.

When saving your file in JPEG, adjust the Compression, or Quality, or whatever the software calls it. This will keep our photo at the same pixel size, but smaller file size (150kb for DPChallenge submission)

If you're using PhotoShop, instead of hitting "Save", use "Save for Web". There you can select a quality (I don't recommend going below 80%) and thereby reduce your file size without having to shrink it down too much. As you're fussing with the quality percentage, there's a projected file size in the lower left corner.
