I have been searching for about an hour for an ID on this bird and not finding it. I thought it was a stork, but I think I've just looked up every stork there is..... :( Anyone recognize it? I know its tough from this image because all you see is the head, but was a large bird, about 3 feet tall and body was solid white.

Might be an egret.

Do you have a full photo of the entire bird?

That was my first thought, too, but egrets have different eyes, I think. Yellow cirlces and more beady than that.

Where did you shoot this mystery bird? Florida?

Apparently I do not have a shot of the whole bird... :(

Yeah, was in central Florida, but at a park and in an enclosure, so I'm fairly sure it isn't native.

Storks typically have much longer/larger beaks... This looks very similar to a Cattle Egret, and you are within their range, but... I really need more of the bird....

I would guess it is a cattle egret, perhaps an immature. Did you happen to notice the color of it's legs and feet?

Drink up!!!......... but that's not a cattle egret. They (cow birds) are very common around here and the bird in my shot is about 2 feet taller than a cowbird. :(

That's what I was afraid of, and why I put in the "but....": 3 feet tall would be one hell of a big cowbird LOL. Maybe it's a mutant?

I don't believe it's a cattle egret.

where exactly did you take the photo? was it at a zoo or aviary?

It falls within the height of the sand hill crane, but doesn't look like one. You might look in the crane family!

Silver Springs -- its a nature conservancy, natural park - type place. This bird was in a large fence enclosure with nothing overhead, so probably couldn't fly (been clipped).
