Only the 5D has the ISO 50. So I guess you need to buy one. ;) |
FWIW, the 1DII has an ISO 50 option too. I'd be interested in a reference to confirm that the ISO 50 and ISO 3200 were not hardware gain settings too btw. |

Where did you get this information?
From my attempt at googling the bst i cold find was that the higher the ISO the higher the dynamic range, but also the more noise. The way a chiop works to get higher ISO is to turn up the volume on the photosites and that adds noise. So I suppose there is some truth to what you're saying, but I didn't find any evidence, only some forum talk and rumours and theory that was unsupported.
IN the studio you shoot 100 becuase you got too much light already (common Ap settings are F8-11) so going to 200 makes it F11-16!

I think if you scour the DPReview forums, you'll come across some tests done with Norman Koren's Imatest. Imatest is a very reliable program, but is ony as good as the inpout data. The differences in dynamic range between 100 ISO and 200 ISO are probably within test repeatability. In any case, I'm not gonna start shooting 200 ISO to gain a small fraction of a stop DR.
