Is anyone a member of the NPPA(National Press Photographers Association)? What are the advantages? My professer said it would be a good thing to join, but I don't want to waste $55 bucks on it if it's not really useful.

your professor is right, if you wanna do photography for a career. youll get a subscription to the magazine and enter a lot of contests if you want.

that said, I haven't joined just yet...but I've joined IPPA (Illinois press photographers association) and i entered their annual best of student photos and got a 3rd place and an honorable mention...now I have somethin on my resume. its good to get into that stuff.

I'm a member. The magazine is great, but you can get the subscription to the magazine without joining as a full member. There are a few advantages to membership. You need to go to their website and look at those advantages and see if it is worthwhile to you...
