Disclaimer: This is purely a photography processing question.
One photo is the original, the other a recent entry into JUMP. What motivated me to share this with you is the three distinct camps of comments: 1) Hated the blur background 2) Liked that there were no distractions in the bachground 3) Was not moved either way by the background. I must admit that I am not very good at photoshop, but I thought that I actually achieved what I was trying to do- namely eliminate distractions from the main subject(s).
Million dollar question: What would you have done with the original photo?
(Believe me if you said, "Delete It!" That would be fine- but please supply a reason. Remember no ego here- just trying to understand better and learn.
Many thanks in advance.

I agree you needed to do something with the background, as the signage on the side of that truck is very distracting. In an ideal world you could have asked the truck driver to move it a few yards... :)

I can see what you were trying to do in post-processing. But you've created a halo around the skater, which gives it a bit of a photoshopped feel.

edit: Ah, I think I see what you've done - It looks like you've created duplicate layer and gaussian blurred it, and then masked around it to bring out the skater. This causes the halo effect I described, as things like his helmet are caught up in the gaussian blur.

You know I did not notice the halo until too late- if that is the defect then I understand.
thanks
