look carefully at popular images of others. study what makes them effective images. you'll see that they likely follow one or more, if not all of these tips.

he is contstantly trying to turn garbage into prints...
most every time i read his article i wonder if he knows how to use his camera. i imagine he is quite a quality photographer, and that he is stuck in a roll of producing an article for the magazine. but he just plan bugs me.
that and silly special effects.

i'd like to practice with a 1D mark II - if you'd care to learn to use the limitations of a 300d - maybe we could trade for a bit ;}

Wouldn't say no, just tht we are on opposite oceans.
Plus, I already have a 300d. Good camera, but not for sports.

You might be able to convince me to eschew legal action by depositing $50 in my paypal account and promising never to sin again :-)

While all good tips are great remember that each image has its own inherent requirement for it to sing. The many rules such as rules of thirds have their use but they can not govern every image. Some images benefit and fit the symetrical design. To go all asymetrical is like shooting everything with the rule of thirds and to shoot all close up will prove just as bad. The image must have a quality that the photographer wishes to convey.
I have seen images that could benefit with a close up but sacrificed to the rules of thirds if only to follow the rules. Formulas will get you a decent image here and there but it is your vision that should dominate.
Remember once you learn the rules keep in mind that rules are broken to suit the inner vision of the image maker. Learn the tricks but always visualize your image and never sacrifice it to a formula. |
