How much are used 20d's going for these days with the release of the 30d? I've pretty much decided to get the D50 Nikon just because it's so inexpensive. But I know I'll probably still want the 20d or 30d within a year or so. |

If you plan on getting a 20D or 30D I wouldn't buy the D50 now. The biggest part of your purchase will be the lens you buy and your Nikon glass will not be compatible with the Canon body when you upgrade. I would suggest saving a little longer and buying the body you really want now Nikon or Canon. |

I know. I've thought about this but I'm dying to get a DSLR. Getting damn near impatient actually. :) I just don't want to get the D50 and grow out of it too quickly and wish I had just went the 20d route to start with. |

You can easily buy used 10d or 300d at a price comparable to the d50; this would be a much better way to approach your problem; then when you are able to upgrade, the old body can be a backup to your system. A used 20d is still worth around a thousand bucks right now.

a natural route would be to buy d50 now and then upgrade to a d200. That's what I would do, anyway :)

I know its hard but you really should pick a system and grow with it.

I have another post about it, but Glenn's Fairprice store in Harrisonburg VA has the following digital camera bodies on consignment: Canon 20D ($800), Canon 10D ($600), Rebel XT ($500). You can probably get lenses off eBay at a reasonable price. I checked the 20D price against eBay and B&H, and it seems like a respectable price.
Glenn's doesn't have a website, owner says they're working on it, but the phone number is 540-434-8272. I've been doing buisness with Glenn's for a long time, and Gary (owner/son of Glenn) won't cheat you. He wouldn't have allowed those cameras to be put out for sale if they weren't in good working order. You can probably get lenses for them on eBay for not too awful much.
The only reason I'm not going for the 20D myself in lieu of my 30D is because they're consignment he couldn't give me the trade for my Olympus. The owner wants $800, not $400 and a used Olympus.

That's the other thing. I'll never be able to afford a d200 anytime soon. That's another reason I want the 20d. Much more affordable for me. |
