Hi guys,
I've been to many many digicam review sites, but nowhere are there information/comparison or any charts at all on the camera sensor's DR.
example: is the DR between the 300D and the 20D similar? Or the D50 and the R1? Those kinda thing. I'm quite bothered by clippings on contrasty scenes, and have decided to make it a personal mission to get a new body with the best DR within my budget - Yes, I'm saving up for a new camera ;)
Anyone know where I could find information on it? Much appreciated, thanks. |

| Certainly the Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro has the most DR of any DSLR out there. Check out DP Review |

Thanks Talmy. Yes, I'm aware that the Fuji SuperCCD may have an advantage over conventional CCD but how well does it compare to say, CMOS from the Canon bodies? Or how does it compare between the D50 and the 350D, you know, things like that? I dont think I could afford the S3Pro right now, lol!
I'm beginning to wonder if there is a reason why these information are deemed unimportant, or not covered under even the detailed reviews?

One of the problems is DR is somewhat subjective. On the DPReview site DR is being measured in the most recent reviews, but the technique (which relies on grey scale) has been criticized. And the DR also depends on JPEG vs RAW and if RAW which converter is used.

Couldn't have said it better myself, and I sure wouldn't have been that succinct ;-)
Bottom line is that all the DSLRs have very good DR. The Fuji is reportedly the best going, but certainly would not be my first choice overall (no secret there, LOL). The 20D and 30D are not that far in usable DR from the 5D, and the 5D is arguably the top dog in the Canon line in this regard, at least when shooting RAW and processing with a converter that recovers the highlight "headroom." Do consider the 30D, it is looking like a real performer overall.
