I've never met another DPCer, but I've met numerous other online friends. I generally call them by their real names. Then of course most of them use their real names online too. Kind of throws the curve a little. |

I haven't met anybody from here. But have met someone from another group and I called her by her real name. I do have a friend I talk to on the phone and the first time she called I called her by her screen name. We had a good laugh! |

I always call people by their real names - but I'm STILL being called Talis and thats a very old screenname from a very old website a very long time ago. I'm still in contact with a lot of those women and Talis is a nickname that stuck.
I met 20 or so of them together at a gathering and nobody could remember a simple name like Jenn - But Talis seemed to fit better they said. So, I answer to both now. LOL

I transliterate Art_Roflmao as "row-full-mayo" for what that's worth... but I like boats and food... And my family calls me "row-bear", the French pronunciation of "Robert".

Better than at Walter Reed, where they recommend a diet of marsh grasses... Make that a "surfeit", btw, mon generale...

Let the wet noodle beatings begin!
I try to call others by their real names once I know them online anyways.

Thats one of the main reasons I changed my online nick.
Though in some places where I used my full name, as GordonMcGregor I'd meet people IRL and they'd constantly use my full name every time they referred to me. Almost more annoying!

OP -> Interesting question, despite the age of this discussion.
As far as I am aware I call people by their first names in real life. But others use both for me: Azzz or Sander. I prefer Azzz from English (esp American English) speaking people because they pronounce Sander like Sender (as in Return to Sender by Elvis Presley). Hate it when they do that. It's even worse when they use my full name Alexander -> ÈlèkSèndrr.
Brrrrrr....

Usually I call the people I meet offline sweety, baby, honey. I get confused easily and don't wanna get myself in a bind ;-)

I would think that Sender would be preferable to what a slightly off pronunciation of Azzz could sound like. ;)
Maybe we need little audio files like they have in online dictionaries. Click on the speaker icon next to a user's name and hear them pronouncing it. |

I've only met one group of people, at an Atlanta get together. I still have trouble remembering the real names of rex and jenesis.
On da udder hand, I've gotten to know several DPCers online by using their real names, so I'd probably use those if we ever met.
As for myself, I send myself email reminders from work using "levyj," so sometimes I even think of myself using that name. 4/13 is my birthday; I just added that on because on some site at some point in the past, "levyj" by itself was taken.

maybe for the English speakers you could do 'aka Xander' to get the desired results? ;) |

I've always wondered how people are pronouncing obscure screen names in their heads.
Like..EUG for instance. Every time I see that name I say "Ooog" in my head. |
