After lots of scouring of the web, searching fora and scratching my head I'm still in somewhat of a quandary.
I want to take professional looking portrait photographs:
therefore I need to use better lighting.
One of my key ideas for getting the D200 was its CLS compatibility with my SB800, and I'm having lots of fun playing with that being triggered remotely, with and without illumination from the on camera flash. I'm now looking into getting some proper back drops to get rid of background clutter and to really re-create that professional look.
My dilemma is this, would another Speedlight be enough? Does anyone use multiple speedlights with CLS and i-TTL for portrait stuff or will I just be limited by them? I could get a SB600 (less power, but will be ok with CLS) for around £150 on eBay.
Alien Bees and all the rest of it (or for UK peeps, the Portaflash 2 set from Jessops) would be ace, but it looks like a lot of kit to buy, and I don't have a huge amount of space. Plus we're getting towards £500. I'd also like it to be as portable as possible so I can do shoots at other people's houses.
My goal from this photography is really to capture the sharp, clear and clean professional images from a studio session, against a lovely white or black background. I would then take lots of pictures of my friends and their children to build both experience and a portfolio with a view to slowly recouping a bit of the outlay from actually commissioned work.
Help and advice please!
