I have a canon batt. and I have a after market one I got off ebay the canon one sucks the after market rocks, it lasts 10x as long. What you need to look at is the mAh, this tells you how much charge it holds. My after market is 1200mAh and the canon is 720mAh canon costs $AU70 after market $AU13 I will be buying a few more in the next few weeks here is a ebay link to the one I got //cgi.ebay.com.au/NB-2L-NB-2LH-NB2L-Canon-Battery-350D-S70-S80-1200mAh-OZ_W0QQitemZ7603224134QQcategoryZ48516QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem |

Don't look like a P&Ser with a big white lens and 1.4x converter hooked to it.

OK, now I'm waiting for my Rebel to arrive(!), and thinking about the extra battery I'll probably need. Won't using a non-Canon battery void the warranty?
FYI @308, that link you provided seems to indicate Australian sales only. I'm in the U.S. Thanks, anyway.
(Is this considered hijacking a thread? And is it OK since I'm the OP? :-) )

It shouldn't void the warranty... One of the guys that my boyfriend works with at Canon suggested a battery from another company. If it voids the warranty, I think a lot of us are in trouble, hehe. :) |

Dang it bear...if my daughter sees this and bugs me for a new pink camera I'm sending her your way! ;)
oh and to answer the op's question...I chose black because first off there wasn't a different version available to me, now I'd still choose it cause I like the look of it.

OK, thanks. I ordered a black one last night.
Now, the new question is what other battery or batteries do you use? (And will that usage void the Canon warranty?)

no...
The way it works is that if your non-canon battery causes damage, the repair of that damage is not covered under warranty. once you pay to have the factory repair the damages, the warranty is back in effect for the rest of the term.
I just use Canon batteries right now but if I saw a third party one for a great price, I'd get it.
Edit: Besides, the only way the factory would know it was a third party battery is if you told them, since it doesn't get sent in at repair time ;)

Yeah, Andrea, that would make sense about the warranty. It seems that this place has a good deal on batteries that have a higher power rating than the Canon battery.

Maybe someday Canon or Nikon (or any big names) would release a Hello Kitty version of their top selling camera :p |
Hello kitty camera here. |

yeah.. Though this is the link for the XT battery. :)
The battery that comes with the XT kit is NB-2LH - 7.4V - 720 mAh and this site is comparing their battery to the NB-2L, which is only 570mAh. You can still get the 2L, but it's more for cameras that don't need as much power, now that the 2LH is out.
The one in the link I provided here is 1100 mAh - 7.2V. It's going to last longer, but the voltage is different. Wouldn't you want the voltage to be the same...? I'd worry about getting a battery that wasn't equal. But I don't know a lot about that, so I could be wrong. :)
Edit: I tried to make this make more sense... heh.

I vote for black. In carefully controlled laboratory tests performed by Canon's "top men", it has been shown to improve picture quality by up to 30% compared to the silver body. That's right, 30%. |

That is why I didn't care when I purchased mine. I purchased the silver version and love it. And actually scuffs and scratches show up more on the black model.

So, I guess Sterlingtek needs to update their compatibility list then on the NB-2LH. I don't know either whether the slight voltage difference matters. Thanks for the info. |
