Woo hoo!
Am really excited about the trip though nervous as hell about getting home (read husband) sick. Pete's not coming with me (it's an expensive trip and he wasn't that enthused so he encouraged me to go on my own, since I'll know many people there anyway).
I'm going out early to visit family, to spend some time with some friends and then will be attending the third annual Festival of Wildlife - two nights in Delhi and 4 in Ranthambore. Then I'll spend another couple of nights in Delhi before coming home...
Anyway, won't be posting (with the exception of today and tomorrow) until I get back on the 10th April so see you then!!!

| We'll be expecting some nice photographs. Hope you have a good time. I have many relatives there from my mother's side. We might go this year. Such a shame that I've never visited India even though I live across the border. Anyways, have a safe trip, aur apna khayaal rakhna ! |

Thanks guys, I'll try and process a few images ASAP but... I haven't even finished processing my Galapagos and Peru ones and that was last year!
BUT I have put aside a few weeks when I get back to CATCH UP on all my processing! Hopefully I'll be able to do that and share the stuff from that trip and India too!

Really enjoy seeing your trip pictures.
How many pictures do you normally take on a trip? What the most pictures you've taken? RAW or Jpeg?

I shoot exclusively in RAW now - I made the initial switch to RAW during the Antarctica trip as I was nervous about getting exposure right though for some reason I switched back to JPEG every now and then. When processing the images I really noticed the difference and found working with JPEG frustrating.
Since then it's been RAW all the way...
THANKS for the well wishes folks!

Namastae from India!!!
Landed at Delhi airport at 1 am on 24th and was met by my dad (mum and dad's trip which was booked not that long back ended up coinciding with three days of mine - they wanted to go back sooner but flights were full so had to go with returning to UK on 27th instead).
He'd hired a car and driver so we went straight to Roorkee, stopping for a few hours sleep at his uncle's en route.
I have family in Roorkee - mainly I wanted to visit my only remaining grandparent, my mother's mother. One of my favourite cousins lives there too and we had arranged to spend time together. My mum was already there too.
That night my cousin and I went to Haridwar - it's an amazing place and I love going there. I'm not religious myself at all but it's a very spiritual place with Indians bathing in the Ghanges and there are hundreds of shrines etc too. Also people buy little boats made of leaves containing either flowers or an oil and cotton wick and send flowers or lanterns floating down the river in the evening. Photos of that didn't come out as was too dark and I struggled even with a tripod but got a few snaps and just enjoyed the experience.
Next day my cousin and I took a trip to Rishikesh, another religious place and I got some great photos there of these two young girls I befriended. They were poor kids making dough from which they were forming tiny balls - these are sold to tourists/ visitors to throw into the water to feed the fish which are an attraction in their own right now. They approached me just in curiosity and sat with me. We chatted as much as we could - me with limited hindi and they with little english. They let me takes lots of pics and we had a lot of fun. I was with them for 30-45 mins, maybe more. My cousin was nearby chatting to some young lads near the water's edge.
I can't wait to work on that set of images anyway.
The rest of the day was spent with the family.
Following day, 26th, mum, dad and I took the car back to Delhi. En route we stopped a few times - once for me to take lots of pictures at a small scale local sugar cane place - hundreds of these tiny "cottage" industry scale places line the road in this region and process sugar cane into a format that is then sold as is or refined further by the big refinery companies. Amazing process. Also stopped in a field to take photos of women cutting the cane. Handy having the parents with me for a few days as my dad was able to ask permission for me first - I just don't have the language skill.
In Delhi that night we hosted a family getogether in a rented room with caterers. Family living in the Delhi region came by and I was able to catch up with many more than I could have visited individually.
Today is a down day. Parents left this morning. This afternoon I'll go shopping but this morning I have little to do. I started off on the normal tedious digital upkeep - copy card to laptop, copy card to X drive, recharge battery, recharge X Drive, recharge laptop, burn DVD backup, etc etc. It takes AGES!
Now that's done I've nothing to do for a while (this one uncle isn't into doing anything) so I'm online for a bit to pass an hour or two!
I think I have some good pics so far!
:o)

Thank you so much for your kind offer.
I should be fine as I also have family in Jaipur (and in other towns in Northern India also). Also, since I am travelling at that point with the tour operator I'm sure it will be fine.
But thanks so much for offering.

If you have family in jaipur then there is no probs i guess. Or you might be already familiar with the places.
Anyway in case you need anything you can always pm.
make best use of your time when you are there. Specially, garmet shopping and food. I can't wait to reach home. In japan can not eat all those things (actually i can since my wife is sexy cook but still i miss that).
