I just got back from an 8 day vacation where I took a ton of photos. I brought my laptop which, of course, didn't work from day 1. But what I found out and thought I'd share was that most photo shops will download your photos onto a cd now. It cost me $10 the first time and $6 the second and only took a matter of minutes. Even the small town shop was able to do it.

So if you don't have a laptop, don't want to purchase extra storage or have an emergency, now you know.

Nice tip. The only other thing I'd recommend is downloading as often as possible: I was 'fortunate' when my 602 was stolen that I only had five images in the camera - naturally, they were the best five images I've ever shot :-) - but hey.

Not nice! Where did they snaffle it from - the car? Interested so I can avoid the same situation.

From the sound desk at a gig in Milan - rather annoying as there were about 20 hi-spec laptops lying around the same place and worth way more than my little 602. Insured though - but they're taking ages to pay up, naturally.

Last vacation I went on I brought my laptop with me to load my many photos onto. Unfortunaly, our hotel room got broken into while we were out and the laptop was stolen. Now I have an Xdrive that seems malfunctional.

Make copies of EVERYTHING. I took some beautiful shots in San Francisco and never burned them to CD. Naturally, my PC got a virus and trashed a weeks worth of great memories. All but five pics are lost.
