Well, it depends how serious you anticipate yourself getting into photography. For just "everyday pics" I think the S3 would be fine, it's supposed to be a great little camera.
But, if photography really interests you, and you have the money, I'd say go for the Rebel. It opens up a whole new world in the abilities that slr's have compared to point and shoots. Keep in mind though, once you get into the slr realm, that opens the door for seemingly endless upgrades and purchases down the road which can and will get expensive.
I don't know too many people who buy the camera with the kit lens and that's it. You'll eventually want a telephoto, maybe an external flash, large bag for all the goodies, extra batteries, more lenses, etc. Then once you have everything you could want, you'll want to upgrade those things to the bigger/better/newer. But there's nothing quite like looking through the viewfinder and capturing a split-second moment that you wouldn't be able to catch due to shutter lag on a point and shoot.
If you consider yourself to be artistic, and really want to explore the world of photography, it's inevitable that you'll end up with an slr so might as well do it now if you have the means. Best of luck! |
