From there we will walk to the mall.

Just got your PM - I'm sending response tonight.

OK, I am soooo pissed right now that I didn;t see this thread earlier. I just got flew into D.C. tonight and will be here through Friday. I could have easily of stayed through the weekend, but at the last minute I decided to leave my camera gear at home!

Grrrrrr....

Well, I have to come to D.C. pretty much every week now for work so hopefully I can catch another GTG!

Now they're calling for partly sunny and 70 on Saturday... can ya dig it!? :)

Of course that forecast will likely change radically between now and then, but at least it looks nice at the moment.

I just looked at the weather for this coming Saturday and it says "Isolated T-storms." That's for here, but our weather is usually pretty similar to DC.

Can you post a map with a big X on it?

Maybe someone with a better knowledge of the city can help me refine this map... but I think the pushpin should be in the right general vicinity (sorry I didn't use a big X!):

Heh... I found that map when I Googled the station, too... but it made my eyes bleed! :)

There are 2 exits. Meeting at Chinatown, I guess.
03/29/2006 12:24:24 PM · #88
I can usually find my way around on the Metro pretty well, so I'm not even going to worry about it until Saturday. Besides, I might come in early too, and go to the zoo.... or climb the Washington Monument! I've never done that before!

There are three exits at that station.
Chinatown - 7th and H
Gallery Place - 9th and G
Verizon Center - 7th and F (used to be MCI center)

The Chinatown exit has the neon fan and is the most recognizable.

There are quite a few really cool buildings right there (7th and F) if anyone is interested...

Can anyone confirm if my pushpin on my map is accurate (posted above)? I want to be sure... I'm going to put that spot into my GPS to get me there if it's the right place.

I'll be arriving downtown around 10:30. If anyone wants to meet early, let me know a time and place...

Weather predicts 70s and sunny (isolated storms, but not very likely).

Anyone who is arriving early up for some zoo action? or something else? Maybe Vietnam? Me and Ben will be arriving to Union around 10... so yeah.

Fudge - haven't been reading DPChallenge much lately.
Already have plans to head to the DC Zoo this Saturday.

I hope to get decent photos there - but really wanted to get down for the blossoms - and a GTG would have been great!

Maybe next time.

At this time it looks like I'll have too much work on Friday and my boss will not fly me to the DC office. So I may have to drive on Friday night and stay in hotel overnight. This is not definate but I want to ask ahead just in case:

1. Does anyone have a hotel or area in mind on approach to DC where I can stay? I'm looking for something cheap. Like $100 or so. Less is better.

2. Where would be a good place to park in DC? Do meters work Sat, Sun or both days?

^ Pretty much every single hotel in the D.C. area is sold out. There was literally only 1 hotel left with rooms as of Monday (and only because a tour cancelled last minute). All the hotels are actually sold out through next week too (just had to cancel a work meeting since employees could not find accomodations).

You are probably going to have to stay a good hour or so outside of the city to find a place and I'm not so sure that you will find anything cheap.

How bad do you think it will be to find a parking space near our GTG location...?
