This "Motion Panning" shot jumped almost a full point as well after being validated. Most people probably thought I used Advanced Editing for this shot so it scored lower prior to validation.
However, I feel that we should still all vote based on the merit of the image and not on the basis of whether or not it was done "legally". The duty of voting is in our hands. Validation is a job specifically for our SCs. If an image, in your opinion, seems on the border of breaking the rules, ask for a validation request but let's not penalize the photographer based on your own opinion.
My current entry in one of the challenges seems to be suffering the same fate. I've received comments that it seems as if I broke the rules. Obviously, I didn't but they don't know that. The appeal of photography is that we trick the eye into thinking what they're seeing what we want them to see. I try to push the limits of what I can and cannot do in any given challenge. Unfortunately, some just think it's blatant cheating.
So my advice? Render a score appropriate to a specific image. If you're in doubt, please click that little item down below the image requesting for a validation.

My point exactly. That's what we're supposed to do. Obviously a lot of people aren't doing that though.
The proof is there in 2 very good photos that finished top 20, but only reached those scores after validation. I never said my photo was good, just that I was surprised how drastically the score changed after validation.

Broad assumption. I still think the message itself is a large factor in the increase in scores pointed out in this thread. "It's been validated. How cool is that?" The message is a stop and look at me item that gets that image more scrutiny.
Of course, this is only my opinion, and an assumption as well I suppose. ;^)

Like if you were to hit the box asking for validation, then it tells you its already been looked at. Or, something along those lines. |
A very good idea! lets suggest it on the website suggestion forum? |
I agree - this is a great idea and would be easy to implement.

In my case my scores probably went down or at least stayed the same. I have had only one image that needed to be validated and it was one of the worst images I submitted.
