i shoot in manual mode mainly - and can't select metering mode - so it's on "center weighted".

partial most of the time.

Spot. Partial with cams w/o spot.

Spot, always, and if it's not what I want I switch to manual. I don't let the camera guess what I want.

Non-studio is CWA around 90% of the time and spot 10%.

I find CWA gets better results than fandangled matrix metering systems and it's quick and easy to +/- EV to get the results I want from it.

Studio is always manual.

cheers,
bazz.

Matrix 99%. In Canon terms evaluative.

Evaluative for most shots, center weighted on others... haven't really gotten technical enough with my equipment to play with spot yet.

With the Coolpix 8700 I always used spot metering. I do the same with my 35mm Minolta.

However, with the Rebel, I'm stuck pretty much with center-weighted, so it's gonna be fun learning to trust the camera.

The 300D has partial doesn't it ?

Sort of like a 9% spot meter :)

I think the 300D only has centre-weighted. The 350D has, CWA, Partial and Evaluative, but no spot :( even my girlfriends A75 has Spot.

The 300D can do Partial in AE lock in the Creative Zone. In M mode center-weighted average is selected. Evaluative (matrix) is used by default.
