Someone had an entry of a rainbow that he/she captured. The rainbow I believe ends in a tree. It was pretty cool and even got validated :)
Anyone know which one this is from? |

It's harder to catch the leprechaun and his pot of gold at the end of the rainbow :P

All I can say is I saw this rainbow pointing down at a doe, focused on the doe, but made sure teh rainbow was within the viewfinder and took the shot and it worked. Is that the right way - I dunno. But did it work - yes.

here are two more I have shot. One I focused on the house. The other obviously was focused on the rainbow itself.

I have a picture from 20 years ago where the rainbow ends right at a low, glass building that is illuminated by a ray of golden evening sun. It looks like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! The picture was shot with my Nikon FG but is not particularly good quality because A) I was a teen just learning, B) it was shot from the window of a 747 as we were sitting on the runway at JFK, and C) it has aged in a crappy-quality photo album. But it was still a very unique picture that I always loved. |

Here's one from last year that I dug up. This wasn't a particularly good rainbow but I used a circular polarizer to bring out a lot more color than I could see only by eye. It would have really been stunning if it had been a full fledged rainbow.

Being in the right place at the right time helps and if not, being willing to run a fair distance to get the rainbow in the right part of the frame also helps.
A polariser can help or almost totally remove a rainbow so be careful on how you adjust it.

I shot these on Wednesday of this week, they are straight from the camera just rotated, cropped and resized.

And this one last year had very little color adjustments.

capturing a rainbow is rather easy, but to make it stand out in the image it's really good to use a polarizer.
the rainbow is just a reflection of light from the raindrops, with the polarizer you can isolate the rainbow and cut off all other reflection that disturbes the image.
this image was taken with a polarizer, the rainbow was very hard to see, but with the polarizer it came out very strong.

Easy. The real trick is to make it look believable....ahem....ahem...
