I went down to the local pond to photograph these guys
when a heron came along and landed quit close to me so I decided to try the new camera with him taking off. But he was moving faster than I was.
This was the final shot

Well in eastern WA where I grew up all I ever saw were swallows, sparrows, crows, seagulls, and robins lol.
In seattle I did see a few hawks while out hiking in the cascades. But some of the others you have I've never seen. Like some I've seen here I never saw back there- bluebirds, bluejays, cardinals, tufted titmouse, wrens. Or maybe I wasn't looking for birds there lol. I'm always looking for them here. |

Great shot Shaman! I agree that the crop is perfect as the overhanging branches add a needed foreground element! Now, tell me where they make black swans? LOL

When living in Western Australia, a state of Australia for thirty years, we saw black swans nearly every day. They are so common there and are the states national emblem. They have been exported to some zoos around the world. They are found in nearly every lake, river, and esteries, throughout Western Australia, and as well as, all over Australia..... We are very proud of them, as they are a magestic bird, and photograph really well.....

Now, aside from the great surf and diving, I have another reason to validate my desire to move down under! Really starting to consider it actually!

I would welcome you with open arms..... but make sure it is Queensland, and especially the Sunshine Coast where I live..... Yes, we have black swans here too, and if you can't find one, I will go out and get you one.....

well maybe it's an osprey I keep seeing around here then. He looks to be about the same size. I'm not sure where he's nesting at but I'd love to get some shots of him. We're in VA and about a block off the York River.
We have those Turkey Vultures too. They are one ugly bird but so neat to watch as they float through the air. I've never seen them till we moved here. |

The black swans in my image are swimming free in a small river in Ottawa, Canada. The city cares for them in the winter, and lets them roam free all summer. There are about 25 of them and they stick mostly in this one river. It great having them around. They are fairly tame, what with being fed all winter by people, so they come very close, usually. I got quite a few close ups, but this one pose I really like becase of the position of their necks - it looks like they are making a heart. Thanks for the comments jaxsond and sherpet. |
