I purchased Paintshop Pro v8 yesterday and I have a question regarding the scripts (similar to photoshop 'actions')...

When I create a script, it saves it and lets me recall it whenever I want to use it. If I go back to edit the script, it shows me that the script is located in the 'scripts - restricted' folder where I installed the application. When I open up windows explorer to go look for this file outside the psp application, I do not see it in that or any of the other folders.

My question is: Is there a way to save this script externally so I can share it with other PSP users? If so, what is the procedure for loading this script for use on another system?

Thanks :)

I hope I am understanding what you are saying...when you say scripts you mean the fonts? Mine are all saved to windows font file so that I can use them in any program. Then to be able to share them you have to copy them from the fonts folder in windows to a new folder elsewhere.

Did you see this part? I'm not sure I truly understand it, but could it be the info you're looking for?

Scripts - Restricted: any script residing here is restricted (see Restriction information below)

Scripts - Trusted: any script residing here is trusted

What is Restricted?
Some general notes about Restricted scripts:

If a Restricted script calls a Trusted script, the Trusted script runs as Restricted. If a Trusted script calls a Restricted script, the Restricted script remains Restricted. Following the return of the Restricted script, the Trusted script is trusted again.

When the application searches for scripts, Restricted scripts are searched before Trusted scripts. In the Script toolbar̢۪s Select Script drop-down list, the two sets of scripts are intermingled and listed alphabetically.

When saving a script, the path defaults to the Restricted directory for the first time this is done with the application. After that, it defaults to the most recently used directory.

If a script is run from an unconfigured path, it is treated as Restricted.

If a path appears in both the Restricted and Trusted lists, it is treated as Restricted.

Presets, Material palette Swatches, and Print Layout Templates (which are essentially scripts) are treated as Restricted.

Additionally, the following commands are not allowed when run from a Restricted script: FileSave, FileSaveAs, FileSaveCopyAs, GIFExport, PNGExport, JPEGExport, FileLocations, FileClose, FileCloseAll, FileSend, BatchConvert, BatchRename, Mapper, Slicer, FileExit.

John, I don't know about scripts in PSP 8, but, I'm just wondering. Since you already have PaintShop, and that's supposed to be the top photo editing software, why did you buy PSP 8? I've been thinking about buying it, but haven't decided yet, so I'm looking for input.

Thanks in advance,

Ursula

I have been using Photoshop Elements v2.0. I like some of the features that PSP v8 has... I like the scripting (what i'm working on learning now) and it is more fully featured than PS Elements. Elements still does some things better tho... dodge/burn and maintaining the aspect ratio during resampling... I'll get them figured out tho...

I think i just need to try giving a script to someone else to run and see what happens... I found a backwards way of making a copy of the script that I wrote... I suppose it could just be dumped into the scripts - restricted folder for someone else to try...

I'll give it a go if you want to send it, pm me for alternate email addy. I've downloaded somebody else's script from a tutorial and run it ok.

When I open up windows explorer to go look for this file outside the psp application, I do not see it in that or any of the other folders.

John, in windows XP if you go to "my documents" then open "My PSP8 Files" folder... then open "Scripts-Restricted" folder... you should be able to see your saved scripts and move/copy them like any other file...
hope this helps...
