Ok, in the heart of being a teaching website to help others improve, is anyone willing to help me figure out how to create a sepia tone (browns) using Elements 4.0? Aparently Photoshop CS has a sepia filter (which I don't know if that's legal) but I don't even see a sepia filter in Elements. Besides, I'm thinking the masters don't use default filters like "sepia" anyway. They probably know how to reduce saturation of certain colors to acheive the sepia tones. Would anyone be willing to post the basic workflow needed to achieve sepia from a color photograph using Elements 4.0?

I've never used Elements however I saw this online doing a google search. Maybe this will help.

convert the image to b/w by whatever means u like. Then open the hue/sat dialog box and check the 'colorize' block. Adjust the hue to down around 25 or so and then adjust the saturation to your taste.

Open up your image. Then do:

Enhance> Adjust Color> Remove Color
Enhance> Adjust Color> Color Variations

You can add and remove basic colors to get close to the effect you want then use the contrast and color sliders to fine tune.

I am not sure what all Elements has. What I do in CS2, which is similar to what someone mentioned, is open the hue/saturation box. Click colorize. Put the HUE at 34 or so, and saturation around 15.

This trick will be part of a new tutorial i'm working on called "The Birth of a Black and White". It will also show how to do it with curves, which isn't possible in Elements.
