Oh come on...how many fashion magazines have photos that haven't been touched up? I guess I'll have to break out the soft focus and have my model go heavy on the makeup... |

I think it is rather difficult to photograph a fashion photo without a make up artist, stylist and so on.
But I think I will give it a go this time, seeing it is one of my strongest points.... Thanks SC! :-)

1) Call your local Mary Kay lady and propose to do up shots for her "Before and After portfolio"
2) Tell her to round up a gaggle of clients to come to your studio on a certain date and to bring a couple of thier favorite outfits.
3) Have lots of towels handy.
4) Take Before shots of them in harsh lighting, shiny forheads and in pigtails/braids/headtowels
5) Have MaryKay lady let them have at it with samples and "look" kits. Serve Champagne and strawberries. Make people laugh a lot.
6) Shoot afters. Champagne should have kicked in by now. Let them be "overactors", shoot between ZsaZsa Gabor faces for real looks. Get permission from all there to enter best makeover in photography contest, get model releases for good measure.
7) Give MaryKay lady CD with before and after shots sized for 4x6 to thank her.
Tada. She sells a bunch, you get clients if you want them, good fun had by all, fashion shoot accomplished. :)

They don't call it a challenge for nothing. Give it your best shot and maybe you can pick up one of the leftover ribbons Anastasia leaves behind. ;-) |

Do we really have to ask who the top 10 will be?
Kiwiness, Anastasia, Elsapo, Nico_blue, librodo... just off the top of my head... |

I have to agree, fashion without advannced editing is really pointless.

I am not usually one to complain because I just look at basic editing as a challenge but I totally agree with the original poster in this particular case, fashion without advanced editing is like trying to take a picture at a sports game with a p&s camera. Can be done but I don´t think anybody can expect the results to be as good as they might be if they had more potent resources at their hand... :D |

I agree. Please the powers that be can we have just one more advanced editing for open challenges. It would suit the people without Photoshop for the Duotone challenge too. Oh go on |

Very true that Advanced would give a bit more bite to the Dutone conversions too.

Or some bite at all to use that don't have full photoshop. |

I would have to disagree with the original premise that fashion photography requires advanced editing.
It's an advantage to be sure...but....many, many studios have fashion shoots all the time with limited photoshopping.
I know we all have grown up in an age of airbrushing but, a lot of fashion is all about light and environment control more than advanced photoshopping technique. I mean, my boss is a fashion photog and is trying to teach me fashion shooting and he uses very little photoshopping.
Here are a couple of examples where he was helping me learn and no photoshopping occurred at all minus basic rule stuff.
The second two are from our studio and he sent those to me in an email straight from camera (small files)
The first one is an attempt in my own studio without all the fancy lights :-)
Nothing but basic editing in all three.

And why is that again?
I mean I understand it makes things easier, but, our studio and many others don't photoshop a lot of stuff.
We just finished a whole catalogue for a Porsche racing team and no photoshopping was done on 90% of it. We had racing suits, watches, you name it. |

I reckon you get better, more professional shots than you posted to be fair. Sorry. Just my opinion. |
