If I were required to validate a shot, and I had cropped it in Adobe Bridge, would that still be a valid file for validation?
Just curious. |

Quick answer, no. Long answer, we need the 100% original as-from-camera image, not a version that has been edited in any way.

| But just to play devil's advocate...if 100% of the 640pixels are within the crop of the RAW file, what does it matter? I assume the EXIF is no different than if you changed anything else like WB, tint, contrast, etc. |

I assume that wouldn't be valid because it has been modified/tampered with. SC requires an unmodified original for validation.

You check this box each time you submit to a challenge:
If requested, I will provide the unedited, original file from my digital camera within 48 hours.
cropping a photo means it's no longer an unedited, original file.

| I think maybe I didn't realize that the cropping and adustments don't alter the original RAW. It didn't seem like I could "undo" my crop in Bridge. However, I believe the original RAW is still intact. It doesn't matter for this challenge anyway as I still have the original on the card too, but I was curious about things in the future. |

RAW files are read only.
I don't believe it's possible to edit a re-save a RAW file.

Tell that to the developer of Nikon Capture software.
Capture embeds the changes in the raw file and makes a mess of the original exif. Unlike some other programs that leave the raw file alone and put all the settings in a settings file by default. Not that I mind, but it is something to watch out for.
When you work on a photo for dpc, simply make a copy of the original and work on that one. It can never go wrong that way.
