Ho ho, it gets better. Just phoned up another official canon pro-dealer and asked them in a matter of fact way are they taking pre-orders on the new canon 30d yet, she then said something along the lines of
"Its 35D and its still under embargo",
then caught herself and said,
"but its all still only a rumour at the moment, thanks for your call, bye."..

I'm awaiting...
My tax return money buys it. If i can get a second wedding paid for, then teh camera is completely paid for too! that will be a very good feeling, but not as good as having state of the art new stuff within a month of it's release!

My wife'd kill me. I already got a color laser with my tax return money. Problem is, I don't meet with the accountant for 2 weeks to file the return :o Hey, a rebate's a rebate, it'll more than pay the CC interest.

I gotta do something, as my rebel has a rattle in it and the shuttter was squeaking the other day...not good. I have a wedding to shoot this month, and no time to send the rebel off for service.

You guys must get some hefty returns. My return is usually $100 or less.

You do realize that your return is really the amount of your interest-free loan to Uncle Sam, right?

i did my return with turbo tax, and they already deposited the money in the bank 10 day.
i still have to sell my 20D to cover the second half of the 5D

Don't think I've ever had a tax return. I usually end up owing several thousand and a little bit of 'penalty' interest tax.

Looking like I'll be owing about a 1DMkIIN this year too. Getting better though, owed a IDsII last year.

It depends a lot. The UK PAYE system is a lot more sane than the US mess though.

If you just work a regular salaried job and don't have much in the way of investments then the income tax is usually right, rather than the US system of making up a number and paying what you feel like.

Once you start dealing with investments/ properties etc you pretty much always have to file a return, anywhere, because what gets taken out of your income isn't going to be right anyway.

For several years I had the fun of filing tax returns in the UK and the US. Luckily (!) the US and UK also work on different tax years, just to make things more interesting, never mind having different systems - the periods in question didn't even match up, so you have to chop and munge records and statements from each country for the other.

Finally convinced the UK to stop taxing me last year. Now I'm just a resident alien - I should move to NM

I have a home based business, so I get all kinds of deducitons there. My 'regular' job takes no federal tax. My wife's job takes the money, but with 2 kids and we itemize we get it back, last year all but about $900 - so we only paid $900 total to the feds. I love it!

Yes it is an interest free loan. It's my government, and so I'll give 'em that. Besides, ever have to pay them at the end of the year? I did one year - no fun to scrape up $800. this was back before they took credit cards.

The last 2 or 3 years I'ave gotten back about or above four grand. Th eplan is to put about a grand into my photography biz. Until I generate some income it'll be twice that LOL.

I always need to pay them - it's deliberate - cause I prefer to have my money rather than giving them an interest free loan. The trick is getting close to the limit where you need to pay interest to them as I try and avoid that. The other trick is having the funds to pay them in April (and Sept for me).

Well considering I went 4+ months without rental income while at the same time my expenses greatly increased.

We'll see..., but I am really hoping for a $4,000-$5,000 return to help with the wedding. Though I'm guessing I'll probably get a $1,500-$2,000 return.
