Oh and RAW too...
I was reading some other threads about adding the camera owners name to the EXIF data and all I could find about it was that it was done out of camera via the editing software (specifically Canon utility). My question is, if you do this, does this invalidate the image for challenges since the EXIF has been modified?
Is there a way to set this IN camera? I couldn't find one yet.
This is instigated by the fact that I had to shoot in RAW for the Historical Society to produce .tif files for the publisher. I usually don't pay attention to the EXIF other than to make sure it has the right date for the challenge and the camera settings for the entry page (which are at the very top of the list). But using the RAW utility I saw the full EXIF and noticed it had camera owner.
Oh...and as a side note...shooting in RAW really opened my eyes when it came to the processing end. I may be a convert.

I believe that on some (don't know about all) Canon CSLRs you can set the camera owner's name. This has to be done with the Canon software, and with the camera hooked up to the computer via the provided cable.
Doing so in this manner would not affect the validity of the file as an original.

I know for my powershot G3 some information can be downloaded to the camera so it shows up when the shot is taken.
I just checked a 10D RAW file with Adobe Bridge and my name shows up in the file info. |

It appears from a search it's done from Canon's CameraWindow software. See the screens here.

Thanks...I was just using the utility that came with the camera and found the camera preferences and entered my name. Now shows up in EXIF. Again, thanks. |

Chris,
what's the name of the utility? I think I have:
-remote capture
-zoom browser
-digital photo prof.
-photo stitch
-file viewer
-photo record
or something other than these...
TIA

What came with my camera was the EOS Viewer Utility (this also has the Capture function as a menu option). When the camera is plugged into the computer via USB on the OPTIONS drop down Camera Preferences is selectable. In preferences just type in your name in the box and press OK and the next pic you take will have your name in the EXIF and it will stay there until you change it.

I'm amazed that there are still many dslr owners who don't shoot RAW.
The camera will rarely choose better levels of WB, saturation, sharpness, exposure, contrast etc, than you can do yourself manually in post.

For me, it's simply convenience. I shoot RAW when I have a paying job on the line.. but for general, personal use.. JPG. I also have storage issues on occasion. |

Well whilst we're on this topic, can you add your name to the Exif of the Canon 350D? I did it with my 300D but I can't remember how I did it (I think it may of been using the File Viewer Utility) and I can't find any documentation with the 350D how to go about it? |

I believe by the infor in this thread you should be able to do it. Open the utility provided for transfereing images, have camera plugged into computer, find Camera Settings and change name.
