i was just wondering, how most people know how to capture their subject. Such as, i know what i want to do, but i don't know how to capture it, like lighting and so on. is this tought? or is it just a natural thing? and also, how do you know how to get the effect you want? thanks.

This is half the fun of the project.... Trial and error is a particularly good way to accomplish your desired result. The lessons learned are more easily retained this way...

With digital, the expense of trial and error is significantly less :)
