I'll see if I can't layer the bg back into it a bit and recover some of the detail from them. Thanks! :-) Anything else?

I think it looks good! If you can work the bg....but if not the subject of the photo is great.

Nope, everything else looks good. You did a nice job cloning. The only thing I see is the darkness. Otherwise, perfect!

Here's my first one that I'm working on. Still lots to do but calling it quits for tonight.

making things in a pic are a rather unique process. (like hands)

Easiest to see the changes by opening each, then switching back & forth in the taskbar.
None were cropped, making it even easier to see the changes.

im almost done with my first one...three more to go after that. reconstructing missing parts of the photo is definitely hard

It was a learning experience. Maybe I went to far in building the missing info?

I don't think you went to far. Excellent job.

Wow, very impressive.

Round 4 for me... oh yeah, and I did cheat a bit, but like the tighter crop better.

Finished my first one. It was easy but it took me about 3 hours because I was learning some things as I went along. Is it better in gray tones or sepia? Anything else you would suggest I do?

Definitely the sepia... fits the photo better.

Original on the left, and then 4 versions. Some are very subtle differences, others are more noticeable.

I feel soooo bad about having to clone out the person to the bride's left, but after 4 hours of trying to rebuild a face from nothing, I just couldn't. As it was it was another 4 hours to build the groom's hair, and I am still not completely happy with it, but at this point is the best that I can do. After making 3 versions that I discarded, because they didn't look how I thought they should.

KaDi, let me know which one you want, and I will send full size to you.

I'll work on mine later today, at this point I am shaking I am so tired

This is my first out of the three sent to me.
What do you all think? I did crop a little, but tried to keep it as much as possible like the original.

I think I might be able to recover the cropped-out areas. If you'd like me to take a shot at it, email the file to me at dpc-2128662 at clubjuggle dot com.

Thanks,
Terry

I think restore #5 looks best. I think you did great on the hair! And while its a shame that the person had to be cloned out...it actually makes for a better portrait as that person was probably not intended to be in it to begin with.

I'm partial to #3, myself. But otherwise I totally agree--great job! Send something my way.

I asked much the same question earlier in this thread.

Kevin himself gave this answer: "Remember, that the digital copy process will probably add some yellowing to the image and that prints went sepia after years of the ssilver salts fading in the original print. To bring the print back to original quality you would want to achieve good B & W tonal range."

We are trying to restore what (most likely) was a black & white photo once, not a sepia one.
Kevin can still decide which is better and print them accordingly.
I will be doing mine to the best b/w I can.

This is my last one... What else do I need to do? Suggestions? This was a much tougher one than it first appeared to be...

This is the first one I've done. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how it came out. 3 more to go.....
