Jen, the lips look much better. I'm not sure what that is on the glasses, but I think it would look more natural and better without the white part over her skin. Either way, you've done a nice job on this hard shot and I'm sure they'll be very happy.

Thanks so much, Neil. Your tips were great and I think I fixed them up even better.

I wish there was a way to get in touch with the owners of the images that we worked on. Perhaps it's selfish, but I'd be interested in learning more about the images and the owners. Anyone else feel that way? Is there a chance we could share our contact info and have it passed on to the owners?
It's just a thought.

I finally have my three done. What do you think? If they were yours would you be happy with them?

the last one as the hardest - so I tried both the color version and sepia. Which is better? I also needed to crop some of each. But I dont feel it takes away from the image at all. |

Wow, those are great! I think for the last one I'd leave it in color. Good Job! |

Awww... Linda, you did a wonderful job! Yes, I would be very happy if they were mine. :)
As for the last set... I would go with the color also.
Butterfly Sis - I know I would be interested in learning more, probably because I do a lot of genealogy research. I'm not if it's allowed. Good luck to you. :) |

finished this one, more or less - made significant progress, anyway
I'm not entirely happy with the way the hair on the woman is right now, but no matter what I do, it doesn't seem to be right. Any suggestions? At this point, I want to get it right(er) for personal satisfaction, if nothing else. |

i think the shape is good on the hair, but the line between the hair and the wall is very very stark. if you added just a slight bit of shadow behind the head on the wall, it might soften the edges a bit and make things look better.
that being said, you've done a great job so far. i don't see a lot of hope for the person on the right. :( |

I've finished my third restoration. Only one more to go. This one is far from perfect, but I did my best.

I've played and played with this one. Tried to get hair looking more natural, but, something just isn't right. At this point I can't see what it is. So, UNCLEBRO, sorry, I'll send you what I was able to do for you.

The little girl is definitely blonder than that. See my post above (I got a different photo of her). Also, I think you've made her head a bit too flat. Hair can decieve our perception of the layout of the human head. Many people think the nose is in the middle of the head, but this isn't the case. Although the nose is roughly the center of the face, if you look at a person and really think about it, peoples eyes are actually very close to the 'equator' of their head (about halfway between chin and top of head). We've got big craniums to hold our big brains.

It's funny Skyarcher should post that now; because I just finished with my effort.
I didn't feel confident enough to recreate the hair so I went a different way:

Hi Everyone!
Thanks so much for all of the hard work! They look AWESOME... and the families receiving them will be so pleased... I can't even put it into words that do it justice.
I've seen a lot of great work come in, and we're excited to see more. While we don't want anyone to rush, there are still a lot of photos still out and being worked on. We're trying to wrap things up from the first trip, so if they could be gotten back so we can print them, that would be really helpful!
Thanks again! |

Becky - will you be going back for a second trip, bringing back more to work on? If so, I would be very interested in another packet or two. |

We are currently trying to get the pictures from the first trip completed... printing them out, mailing, etc. There are also many volunteers who are interested in making a trip themselves, and we are coordinating that. We are also in the process of applying for nonprofit status as an incorporated organization. Dave and I do hope to go down again ourselves, but we need to get this first round finished first!

I also think that if they are still waiting for some of the photos to be finished and if any of the DPCer's are still working on theirs, then maybe they could pass them onto some of us lot to help them finish?
