Has anybody published their own photography book?

I have a few photos that I would love to put on a book as a present and I was wondering if anybody has done it before and if so who they have used and what they thought of the process

I found a few places online but I wanted to hear from people that had actually done it :)

Any help I would appreciate

Thanks

I spent a lot of time looking into options for this last year but ended up putting the project on hold waiting for some files and information to be sent to me.

I'm now ready to put the pages together and need to decide on which company to use before doing so as each requires slightly different file sizes.

Based in the UK I'm looking at Lulu (which I like but the largest landscape orientation option they have is only 6 x 9 inches) and Photobox (which offers a 8.5 x 11 size but currently doesn't allow you to add pages to the default 20).

I have published a ~100-page book (you can actually buy it off my website below :))

I printed it in Russia where presumably it is cheaper than here in the States, but still it cost me quite a bit of money (around $20 per copy, 300 copies printed, do you own math). I am not complaining, they did a really good job.

If you visit his website, in his signature the link to the book is right there.

I just performed a search for "DEKOM Publishing House" and found their web site. However, it's in Russian.

Asuka Books does a really nice job. They arent cheap and I havent used them myself but they have been highly recommended to me by someone who sets himself very high standards LOL so I am pretty sure they are okay.

I should add that you have to register with Asuka, it is free and they take about 2 days to approve the application and e-mail you a password etc. in order to see prices. All other information is accessible without registering except the pricing and templates.

Have a look at photoworks.com. I've used them a few times for books that I only want one or two copies of (like a model shoot, etc). They look great.

yes indeed. I happen to know Russian as my native language, so it helped :)
I am not sure whether they can handle English-based editorial process, but I can check with them if you want - I know DECOM's director pretty well. They are reliable and efficient, that I can attest to.

Legalbeagle has had experience with this. He had his wedding photos through aa Australian firm and is just waiting for his honeymoon books to arrive from the USA. I am sure he would help out if you PM him.

I used Asuka books for book printing - they arrived yesterday and look very good! (I used Jorgensen for mountig prints in an album - extremely high quality, but at a price!).
