I have only had one ticket and it came shortly after I got a radar detector. :S
I haven't used it since and I haven't seen a ticket since. :)

PLEASE don't tell my 16 year old daughter, but I've had 9 speeding tickets. Was funny though, they happened 3 at a time. 3 in about 2 months time - 3 years before the next, then 3 in a few months again....
She got one a few weeks ago and waited SIX weeks before she told me. She paid for the ticket, but was afraid I'd take the car away. I didn't. Instead I have a house-maid for SIX weeks. I thought that fair! lol I've gone pretty easy on her, but do come up with one icky task per day to keep her hating the punishment for not telling.

I drive a 2000 Z 28 camaro and I've had exactly one speeding ticket my whole life (won't say how long that is .. 29 and holding? LOL) Anyway, it was due to over sized tires on my vehicle so the ticket was dropped. Do I speed? Occasionally (usually when I'm angry which isn't often). I just don't get caught :) *knock on wood* |

Been driving for 24 years....have had a total of 4 tickets (all for speeding). Oh - and one ticket in California - they took my license away for doing 94+ in a 55 (oops).
I'm really bad about doing the speed limit, I just don't get caught too often now. In the past 2 years I've been pulled over twice - warnings both times. My record has been clean for 7 years now.

Wow since I work in insurance I know how crazy people can be with the speed, you would be amazed and then they sit aroung a wonder why an 18 year boy would have to pay so much for insurance....
Of course I can't say much I am a speed addict, my mom always says one of theses days I will get pulled over. I am crossing my fingers not too! |

I'd tell a nice story along those lines, but I really can't...I'd like to say what it involved, but I really can't...they're watching!

It's been three years since I've gotten one, and I had a radar detector - but they got me with a laser. If you're the only one they shoot, it's too late when the detector goes off.
In any event, the cop gave me a lot of good natured razzing when he saw the detector on the dash. I just took it and smiled. It's alright, he's just doing his job. |

In my younger reckless days... a few here and there, but the one I am most proud of was for being clocked at 117mph on highway 40 in Arizona en route to the Grand Canyon. Nice guy suprisingly, we got talking for 15 minutes about normal stuff, and he let me go with an 85+ ticket which was only $75. I was pretty lucky! |

I used to get a lot of tickets for speeding, for doing dumb stuff, even a DUI which straightened me RIGHT UP on that account, which is more than I can say about the "speed tax" tickets.
I've had some pretty high-mph tickets, some pretty expensive tickets, but the most memorable one was getting a 92-in-a-70 on my birthday travelling I-10 across flat, I-passed-Nowhere-4-hours-ago Texas on my way home to Maryland.
I actually got a "Yuh ain't from 'round heeah aaaah yuh?" and when the pi... errr, upstanding civil servant noticed that it was my birthday said "It's yer birthday, ain't it?. Yessir. Welllll that just sucks for you don't it?" Cop humor, I guess.

I was driving back to college in CA at about 3AM, the road was deserted and I was driving a very fast 240Z. I'm wide awake and just decide to open it up, a bit, then I opened it up a lot. I went blasting through one town and the CHP was sitting on the onramp, evidently waiting for me. I just happened to look in my mirror and see these blinking lights way, way back there falling behind. My first thought is that I can probably ditch him, my second thought was I can get away from him, but I can't outrun Motorola. So, I just pull over on the shoulder and wait for him.
After determining that I was not intoxicated, he says, "Son, do you realize that I was going 110mph and you were pulling away. I could just arrest you right now for reckless driving, but I'm not going to" He handed me my ticket and said "I wrote you for doing 85+, which is as close to reckless driving as I can get without arresting you. I suggest you just pay it. By the way, how fast were you going?"
"About 130."
"Well, for God's sake, slow down, son and have a safe drive."
Damn ticket was about $300.

I got tagged coming back from detroit one time doing 170+kpm (over 100mph). I had no valid insurance slip on me and a loaded sawed off shot gun sitting on the front seat under a blanket. A week later got tagged again at 145kph coming back from detroit and got a major fine. A week after that I was going to the cottage after the street races and fell asleep at the wheel, breezed (just missed) an OPP cop car and got another ticket for speeding 120kph in a 100kph zone. The worse part is when I got back from the cottage my summer car was impounded for an invalid sticker on my plate. The sad part is that the sticker was sitting in the visor of my truck. |

Way back in the early 80's, when I lived in Carmel, my GF had a 630csi BMW. We left Carmel to drive to Lompoc, where we had been expected a couple hours earlier. It was like 1 AM, we're running down 101 south of Salinas, no other traffic. At the time, the CHP only ran two patrol cars on that highway late at night, and I'd seen one of them going north already.
GF was asleep in the shotgun seat, so I opened up a little. GREAT road car. Running about 90mph I guess... Blew right by the second CHP sitting on the shoulder. Higway dips and rises, dips and rises, really nice road. CHP is running these dinky Mustnags, they aren't any good over 90 mph and CHP has orders not to pursue at a higher speed. So I just opened the Bimmer up some more, flew south at 120 mph, watched the gumball lights dwindling behind me each time I crested a rise :-) Never passed another car, just a truck or three.
Never have gotten a speeding ticket, and anyway I don't speed anymore, I drive jeeps and I drive sanely. Eyesight and reflexes aren't what they used to be.

I've never had one, I've had 1 written warning, that was back in my early 20's. I think the State Trooper felt sorry for me.
I was running late for work and speed limit on this road just wasn't quite fast enough for me. I saw him coming toward, looked down at speedometer and just pulled over and waited for him to turn around.
Of course, I was at this time about 30 feet from the entrance to where I worked. :( And as I was pulling out my wallet, my purse dumped upside down, co-workers are honking and waving as they pull into the parking lot. Then they decide to stand on side of road, cheering. *laughs*
He was super sweet about it, helped me to gather all my stuff and put it back in my purse, asked about all the people, cuz they were cheering FOR him. I said, that's where I work. He laughed and said, I'll give you a written warning, since I think you will get enough punishment when you pull in parking lot. And don't do that again!
I haven't done it, I stay within 5 mph of speed limit and actually find I am calmer driver by doing it. :) |

I've had my share of tickets most of them coming in the first 3 years of driving. My worst ticket was when I was living out in Midland, Tx. I was outside of town in the country around 10 one night. My friend and I had gone to the store for his mother. I was driving my fathers BMW 3 series and wanted to see how fast it would go, it was an older BMW and the speedometer stopped registering at 85. We got done at the store and I peeled out of the parking lot and took off down this two lane road. We were going so fast it felt like we were floating over the road and could only see the road ahead of us. Well unknown to us at the time there was a cop on the other side of the store that heard us peel out. We were about 2 miles away from a stop sign where we were turning and we saw these lights way back in the distances, they were actually getting closure to us. I looked over at my friend and told him either thats a cop or someone is as stupid as we are, I said we should probably shut off our headlights and turn off onto an oil road. In the country it gets so dark you can't see more than 100 feet off of the road and they lights were still a good 2 miles back. Well we decided against and thought it was just another car. Well we get to the stop sign and right as we stop 2 state troopers come out of nowhere from the road we were about to turn on. They had been radioed by the cop now with his lights on behind us about our speeding. Anywho they pulled us out of the car and put us in handcuffs and ran our plates, license and insurance. Long story short the speed limit was 55 and we were going 120. I was sixteen at the time and he didn't want to take met to jail once he found out why we were speeding. He ended up writing the ticket for 108 in a 55, which was right below the limit for getting a license revoked and going to jail. He then called my father and told him that he would personally follow me all the way home.
The ticket ended up costing 600 bucks. Deferred adjudication and defensive driving was not an option with a ticket of this magnitude and I didn't want it on my record. I ended up hiring an attorney to fly down from Dallas to appear in court for me. Each time he would get a reschedule from the judge, until the cop didn't show and then got the ticket dismissed. 600 bucks was for the attorneys leg work.

I didn't read the whole thread, so don't know how this stacks up...
Since 1974 when I got my first license
38 speeding tickets in 5 states
pulled over at least twice that and most likely more than twice
Since 1996 when I moved to Mass - 0 speeding tickets, pulled over once for a burned out plate light bulb and stopped 4 times during routine DWI checks. Those never bother me as I don't drink and drive. |

I've lost track of how many tickets I've had over the years, but it's a LOT (easily 50+ in at least 10 different states)! I wrecked every car my parents owned from the time I was of legal driving age until I graduated from college. I've wrecked every car I've owned.
A deer ran into the side of my car last night in my driveway...

I've only had about 6 speeding tickets in my life, I´ve driven over 1.000.000 miles in the past 15 years, so I think I'm below average ;)
the bigget ticket I've had was at that time about $5000, and that was for real speeding, I was doing 197MPH on a 60MPH highway.. damn I got mad when I saw the speed on the radar, I was hoping to break the 200MPH record on that road, set by a motorcycle ;)
