For me, there's no challenge in this Challenge now, I'm kind of sad about that but I can see if you're trying to be Adams, you need help.

nobody forces you to use advanced tools :)
A good candid shot without any "enhancements" in the Cartier-Bresson's style would stand its own in my eyes.

Well I was going to meet the challenge of the Tribute challenge by trying to emulate the great Henri Cartier-Bresson whose prints were made stright from the negative without any manipulation.
Same thought crossed my mind ..only I'm not sure my skills are up to it. May have to sit this one out. |

My personal opinion is that the change in the rules was entirely appropriate for the Tribute challenge but not necessary for the Wildlife II challenge. The fact that registered users get to enter an advanced rules challenge is a plus. But the fact that there is no challenge this week for the beginners who don't yet have the skills to compete in Advanced is a minus.

It should be more rewarding for you and a better tribute to HCB when you beat advance edited photos with an entry that has as little editing as possible done to it. That's an even bigger challenge.

Except that to make one Advanced and the other not would probably have distorted the entry pattern more than just the difference in topics.
Since an immediate change was necessary if it was to be made at all, there was minimal debate on all the possible permutations ... we'll have to save the Advanced/Basic exclusive experiment for another week. |

Honestly...I think a wiser choice of challenges would have been better than changing the rules...can of worms...now every open challenge that someone thinks would be 'easier/better' with advanced rules will get requested for such ad nauseum...
"Oh but you did it for ..."
"Oh but I can't do this without advanced editing..."
What happened to 'paying' for the privalege?

It made sense to allow advanced editing to emulate another photographer whose style may involve particular tones or darkroom techniques, and Wildlife was made advanced just to match. Advanced editing has been allowed for Open challenges in the past on rare occasions, and no worms escaped. ;-) |
