Who has done this?
I've been looking into it more and more lately.
As of right now...the only thing that I want to do with my life is get out of here and do stuff. But working as a cook part time doesn't really afford me the chance to go traveling.
Volunteering would rock. I've been reading around and you can get your TEFL (Teching English as a Foreign Language) Degree online for about $400. One you have that you can get paying jobs teaching english abroad. I heard job placement can be kinda hard, but if you get one in Asia or Thailand the pay can be really really good.
Another thing that I was looking at is being a photographer in the Navy. I've always been against joining the army in any way, shape, or form...but I went on their website and this doesn't really sound that bad.
Really...I could care less what I do. As long as I get out of here...

Caleb; I know here in Malta they have a thriving english as a second language industry. There are a lot of folks from asia as well as North Africa that come here for the opportunity.
I don't know what they pay, but I can ask around if you're interested.

| I haven't worked abrod but just returned from studying in Spain for 4 months. Personally I wouldn't join the navy just to go somewhere. You're young, getting a work visa for most countries is fairly easy. Teaching English might be OK, but I might suggest getting a work visa somewhere in Europe (Europe is a good starter for travel, the culture is similar to North America in most cases), getting over there, finding some sort of job that'll allow you to scrape by, sign up for a language lesson or two, and travel when you're not working. Flights with Ryanair and other discount airlines allow travel around Europe like never before. Stay in dorm hostels short term and shared rooms longer term and it's a cheap way to live. |

| Something I have considered in the past is the Peace Corps. I know several people who have joined and LOVE/LOVED it. |

If you do join the military, make sure you get your job in writing BEFORE you get sworn in.
If you go to college first, the Peace Corps would be a good alternative.

Yeah...I checked out the PC website, too bad you have to have a college degree in order to join.
I don't know... I'm just running into a bunch of dead ends here. It sucks...
