For those who might remember, I posed a question a while back about the ability for the 20D to generate a proper billboard photo:
//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=303927&highlight=billboard
Well, the consensus back positive, and now I have the proof:
The BILLBOARD IS UP! For those who know Montreal, you'll see it from the 15 north, when travelling from the Champlain Bridge to the Decarie Expressway, just as you pass the de la Verendrye exit. For those of you who don't know Montreal, probably hundreds of thousands of people pass by there every day! WOW!
Here are some photos (the second one is really bad, but we were moving rather quickly and just had a little POS).
Needless to say, I'M PSYCHED!!!

Booo, I'm never on that section of the 15 so I don't know if I'll ever see it :(
Anyways, felicitations!

Damn, that's very cool! I only ever had one billboard in my career, of a model home in a development, but that one came from a 4x5 Ektachrome :-) It's FUN to see your work displayed at 50-foot size isn't it?

Wow! Thanks for the kind words. I like the suggestiion of going up there to sign it. LOL! I also like the idea of sending it to Canon. I'll look into that. Maybe they can fix my broken 20D for free?! LOL ... lol ... sob ... wimper.
I have an update on the traffic: The Champlain Bridge leading to that section of highway sees approx 49 million vehicles per year. Assume half goinf one way, and half the other. There's a fork in the highway at one point, which probably takes about 20-25% of the traffic. So if my maths OK, that means approx. 18-20 million vehicles per year. WOW!
This is a long term billboard, as we own it. That image will probably be up there for close to a year, possibly until late next fall.
As for more billboards, well since I'm the company photographer, and also since they're quite happy with these results, there will probably be more.
The billboard image will also be used to decorate delivery trucks, and what ever print advertising we do will also be using this design.
For those of you who don't understand French, it reads "Two Golden Beers" but the English tag line will read "A Thirst for Gold".

I'm just curious what the resolution looks like up close.
So... while you're up there signing it, take a picture of it (up close) with you standing next to it to give perspective. :-) |

Have you asked to keep the billboard when this is over?
Most billboards are actually printed on something resembling a big tarp which is tied onto the frame. |

Thanks. Not sure what you mean by over the back of her couch? Do you mean hanging on the wall over her couch? Could be 20x30, but could be bigger too. Not sure what you mean. Please elabortate...

It was printed on a big nylon banner and stretched onto the frame of the billboard structure. Yes we'll probably keep it once it comes down, and find some use for it. I probably wouldn't keep it for my self, though. Not sure what I would do with it. It could plaster the side of my house...
